gear ratio question

Am I correct in assuming that 3.55 gears means that when the transmission is in direct drive (1:1), your wheels will turn three revolutions for every 55 of the flywheel?

uhh no

it means the output shaft of your transmission turns 3.55 times to one revolution of the wheels.

and since you say 1:1, then it also means the flywheel turns 3.55 times to one revolution of the ring gear.
