Hello all, this is my first post and I need advice on how to locate the gear ratio. I have done a search on this site and found the explaination regarding the tag that is on the rear diff. Located the tag but it was at the 3 o'clock position instead of the 12 (where I was expecting to see it) and it didn't read the way other examples I found in this forum said it would. The tag lists as follows:

S PM V 651B
355 88 2A14

Is this a 355 ratio?

Many thanks in advance,

You can also find your rear axle gear ratio (labeled either "axle", "axle type" or "axle code") on the drivers door, specs tag located near your door latch area. Mine just says "axle" with the two digit code number under it, which is "45" or 3.55 gear ratio-Open Diff. On the door tag under where it says "axle", your gear ratio code numbers will be a pair of numbers or a letter and number combo. You won't see the actual gear ratio, just the code numbers for that diff. The difference is one is for "open differentials" and the other is for "Limited Slip" differentials. The gear ratio's are the same for either "Open or Limited Slip" Diff's. What ever the axle code numbers and or letters are, correlate them to the gear ratio below.

Here is the listing for "Open Diff's:

42= 4.10 Open Diff
45= 3.55 Open Diff
46= 3.73 Open Diff

Listing for "Limited Slip" Diff's:

D2= 4.10 Limited Slip
D4= 3.73 Limited Slip
D5= 3.55 Limited Slip

Another forum member posted these gear ratio's up last year and I saved them for my records or to help anyone else looking for this info. FYI, the Limited Slip diffs need to have at least 4 ounces of "Friction Modifier" lube (sold in parts stores in 7 ounce tubes) added to the rear diff gear oil, which is 75W-140 Full Synthetic. The rear diffs hold around 1.60 to 1.75 quarts. Hope this helps you out.
This was updated to be more specific about the door tag code numbers for the rear diff gear ratio's.
