Gears for Dana 35 IFS looking for place to buy

Nice... so 2000 Explorer has had reverse cut gears installed in the front? I thought it was first gen with reverse cut...

Well I guess so..

Just to make sure, I dug up my D60 high pinion ring gear and this is what it looks like:

In contrast, this is my D44 low pinion ring gear:

This is is a 14-bolt GM axle, not a Dana axle, but it also follows the convention. It is low pinion:

The image below is from JEFE's writeup on how to remove the front diff on a 95+ Explorer (Jefe had a 2000 Explorer). It is low pinion:

and that's why I need numbers off the tag on the housing. Second gen D35 is so unique they call it Super Dana 30. And now how can I choose my gears if in some places they say all gears 1990-2001 are the same and some places sell gears for Dana30 for the Explorer.

I'll go with Eric... he probably knows what he's talking about.

I feel your pain.

Did you call Randy's Ring and Pinion? Because thats where I ordered my gearset from when I still had the IFS.

funny thing is that when I called them they want numbers...

Ahaha thats weird, maybe try giving them a call again. Maybe you got a lazy person on the line that time.

I was trying to look up the Yukon PDF catalog but cant quite find it. I'll let you know if I find it.

Well still no PDF but I found this part number at Randy's Ring and Pinion online catalog:

ZG M35-456 for $137
YG M35-456 for $176

There are two because they offer two different brands -- Yukon is the YG one.
I do remember that "M" designation, the differential is called the "M35".

I am curious as to why that Explorer's differential you have has high pinion gears. Was it regeared before?
Finding red, blue, or any other color other than black RTV on the mating surface of the cover would be a good indication that the differential has been regeared (by a bat who was blind to see the difference in the old and new ring gear).

and if the picture is correct those gears are not for the front end of the truck we are working on. I can't tell you anything else at the moment - truck is about 300km from where I am... I bought gears for a friend of mine... it's his truck - he's working on it - still waiting for the numbers off the housing...

thanks a lot for your help - seems that now I will know everything about gears...

here's the number off the ring gear:
12 21 99 B DANA G 43729 P8L749 41 11

so I know it's been made december 21, 1999 - it is a DANA ring gear and that it's a 3.73 ratio... anything I missed?
