Going in for a paint job!!

flames

I went ahead & drew some flames on MY explorer (in the grime) just to see what it looks like. My freehand attempt was pretty crude, and the metallic beige paint offers little in the way of contrast... will install more grime this weekend & keep making attempts until I get it perfect... photos to follow... FLAMES!!

Sphaugh,
another idea is to take some 1/16 inch trim tape and try laying out flames. Then you can really see what they would look like.

Yeah, a metallic paint job, Matt's lights shining on it as you are turning in circles, it would be like a disco ball! Time to break out my platform goldfish shoes...... replacing the goldfish first of course..

You know you could always get those magnetic decals of flames that just stick on and peel off. They dont look too bad. Yeah, Matt shining his lights, Rick doing circles, and then me smokin my tires of that foggy effect......

Why do you want to paint it C***Y hugger orange?

Anyway, just call it Hugger orange from now on....mmmmkay?

Monocromatic

Rick,
I've seen quite a few trucks featured lately with the bumpers/brushguards the same color as the body as Ryan suggested. I was thinking of that after our conversation on Friday. There is an orange Chevy pickup that is featured on "Trucks" on TNN on Sundays. It looks awsome!

When are you putting it in the shop? Do you need help removing the trim/bumpers? I'm off Friday if you want help. E-mail me if I can be of service!
Rick

Rick, I just took it to the shop this morning. I stripped all of the trim, bumpers etc. over the weekend.

I'm still going for the black bumpers, nerfs etc. We're shooting for October 6th for a completion at the latest.

Oct 7-8 is the Truckin' Nationals at Firebird Raceway. If all goes well I'll have my truck on display there.

FLAMES!
My mechanic and I had discussed putting flames on my truck, but now that you are doing it, I guess I won't. I didn't think that anyone would do this since it's a truck. We were thinking about blue and green flames.
Rick, can't wait to see the "Great Pumpkin".

The old graphics were somewhat of a modified flame job, so I decided to stick with the style. The new flame job should be more of the traditional style though.

Rick, get some pics posted so we can see it when it's done. I didn't mean any offense in my earlier post, just busting yer balls with the Chevy thing.

Also, I see you changed your front end. I liked the old body better! I thought it was awesome, but everything needs a change now and then I guess.

Are you getting new wheels or keeping the old ones?

P.S. What made you decide to get a paint job?

Rick I live in Surprise and in the spring I'll be ready for new paint. Where in the valley is this shop located? If it comes out good I'll check 'em out. Good Luck, I'm sure it will look great.

Derek

No offense taken at all. I know it was just in fun.

As you can see it needed either a full paint job or at least the front end blended. I figured that since the truck is already 7 years old and I had just updated the appearance by adding the '98 clip why not update the entire appearance with a fresh paint job.

The wheels are different than in the "before" photo. The new ones are all black. When I did the solid axle swap I needed 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern wheels I also went to 15x10s instead of the old 15x8s.

The name of the shop is Xtreme Paint and Body. They are located at Loop 202 and Scottsdale rd.

The owner of Xtreme paint drives a lifted Xpedition and now he's working on an Xplorer it seems like a good omen :D

Bummer Rick, I really liked the old rims you had. I looked all over, but couldn't find any like yours. I bought some AR767's, have had them for about a month and I don't like them at all. They won't seem to seat right and cause a bit of low speed wobble. Had the tires and rims checked for out of round and they were good. So the only theory I could come up with was the seating problem. I ordered a set of AR Baja(15x8) rims today. Know anyone that's interested in slightly used 15x8 767's? I also chose the 767's for the backspace, but the Baja's have the same so they will work too. It's hard finding the rights stuff for such a new truck, but I think I may be the first to be going this far into mods. I dunno, I am rambling.....

Now that I have seen that pic Rick, I like the looks. The front wells make it look higher and I see your point about the paint job. Good luck, it's gunna be sweet.

P.S. I got the stickers...thanks. Someone else got them by accident and decided to forget to bring them to me for a few days.

2001expsport? What did you mean by "how do I assemble paint"

Rick you kill me. Just cause your the MAN around here doesnt mean that you have to keep pulling ahead of all us little people. Everytime I think someone is getting close to your truck you do something like solid axle, paint jobs. I say whats next? Guess I will have to start breaking the law to get the money to catch up with you! "Kids that last statement was completely a joke" I am just going to have to get another job or start playing the lotto. Maybe I shouldnt have bought this brand new truck, then maybe I could do it. Cant wait to see it! Are they going to let you take pictures of the paint assembly process?

Oh its a difficult process :) My bad! Typo! Okay that means war! I will correct you from now on. :)

now now now......boys be nice or I'll get the ruler.

ps...Rick, good luck showing your truck. I would love to see that bad boy at a show up against some of the low rider's rigs anyday. Theres a guy at work who has some 4banger that's lowered too low to drive with a custom stereo, tv, all the worthless toys. It's would be nice to see a kick a#@ 4x4 that runs like a tank and looks like a babe.

pss....I also got the sticker. They do fit nice in the rear hatch.
