Going in for a paint job!!

My mechanic and I had discussed putting flames on my truck, but now that you are doing it, I guess I won't. I didn't think that anyone would do this since it's a truck. We were thinking about blue and green flames.

I've been planning flames since I painted my truck Olive Drab. I'm going to go with either white-to-red or yellow-to-red traditional style flames.

Ok Rick,
It has been a week since the latest update.
How about some picks or at least a story of how they are taking longer then they quoted :)

It should be done Thursday. I have been staying out of their hair, hence no photos.

I did stop by last Friday though to drop of new fender flares for the rear. The whole truck was stripped, no doors windows hatch etc. The fiberglass clip was also disassembled. The inside of the doors were painted and the body work was done when I last saw it. They fixed the dents on my rocker panels and the small dings I've acquired over the past seven years.

I may stop by tomorrow just to get a few pictures. I'm sure it's pretty far along though since it's supposed to be done Thursday.

I picked up my bumpers and nerf bars from the powder coat shop today. They came out nice. I had them done in gloss black with a clear powder topcoat for added gloss.

Since I pulled apart the interior at home I detailed all of the door panels as best as I could as well as cleaned the seats and carpet. I figured this would be a good time for a full "makeover". I replaced one piece of broken interior trim and one of the door weather strips which was looking pretty ratty. I need to do something about my speedometer next. The thing is covered in dust as is the clear plastic cover. I need to clean the cover up and get a white face gauge set to spruce things up.

That's about it for now. I promise the photos will come soon!

Hey Rick, can you mail me a few seeds from your money tree?

Hey Rick,
Just wanted to warn you when you go to put it back together, it doesn't always go back together as quick as it took to take it apart. We have had people take there cars apart, then we paint it and give it back and a month later we ask them how it is going and they say not so good.
I'm not saying yours will be like that, but just to let you know it might take a little longer. At least the Explorer door panels are really easy to take on and off.
Look forward to the pictures.
We will have to get together for a photo shoot. Our two colors would REALLY clash

Perry, I've been preparing for the reassembly. The interior isn't a problem, I've had that apart numerous times before. I bought all new push pins for the door panels to keep things tight.

The bumpers and nerf bars will be a bit of a challenge. They are a very tight fit. I've already ground off all of the powder coating where the bumpers meet the frame. I'll still need an extra pair of hands to wrestle them in place though. The nerf bars never used to be a problem, but now that the truck is higher I can't use my legs to help postion them, the angles just don't work :D

I can guarantee you Perry, this thing will be together either the night I get it back or the next day :D

If you can do that, then you are GOOD!!!
Do you plan on having a BIG party with lots of help?
Good luck, It will be good to see it finished. O.K. maybe we can do a photo shoot to show people there are other colors besides WHITE EXPLORER'S

NO! I'm not eager to tear up the paint. First I've got to get loads of good photos...then I can tear up the paint :D Unlike others on the board I'm not looking forward to putting dents in it at all. Scratches I can deal with, I've had thousands of those. I just hope my luck continues and the dents are kept to a minimum.

Perry, I will definately be back to Colorado for more wheelin' fun! And don't forget about Moab, maybe we could meet up there.

Oh and no reconstruction parties either, I'm doing the interior myself and I'll have a friend help with the bumpers and nerfs.

MOAB

We are planning on the Moab run next year, just waiting for the dates. We will definitely see you there.
Wished we could do the Truckfest 2001, but no extra funds.

Y'know, I had an orange truck once. It was a 1979 Chevrolet Luv. My "4 car." Straight 4, 4 sp manual, 4x4. Ugly as hell--had white wheels. Floorboards were rusted through. I loved that thing...learned to drive a stick in it.

Since you live in Arizona, I was thinking the 'modified flames' were something of a southwestern theme, guess not. Perhaps something in that arena( Soutnwestern theme) instead of flames? Though I don't know what would go well with that orange color.

pink stripes?????
blue dots????

I always liked Ted Nugents orange to white to brown fade with zebra stripes...

Hmm I think this is directed at me? :) LOL Well I will have you know that my dents are better looking then ever! LOL

Not just you Matt, but Paul G. as well :D Paul had made some comments in his Rubicon thread about dents and shopping malls

Rick, I know what you're doing...

...I know your secret Rick. Its been almost a year since your truck was in a national magazine, so you're getting it ready for a shoot right? Yea, I can see the first few lines of the article, "The last time we ran into Rick H., he only had a 5 inch lift and tiny tires. But that was LAST year....". Am I close? Man, you've got it made. Of course, I could be way off base. You could be getting ready to sell it too!Dead Link Removed

Ready to sell it? No way, I enjoy it too much! Ready for a magazine feature? Well...

Well its to far gone now to want to keep in purty! :)

Accually I will see what I do now that I got a daily driver I may try to fix some of the problems myself.

Go for it Rick!
It should be a featured vehicle with a cover page. There is nothing like it on the road today. It should look clean as H... when you get it done. You should submit the pictures to the boys at the magazines. It would be a crime if it did not end up in a magazine.

P.S. I will be atending the Truckin National at Firebird this Sunday. Are you going? If so we should hook up.
