Hello all,

I joined the Explorer family 6 days ago and was very glad to see so much great info on this site. I need a little advice on a couple little fixer uppers. I definitely want to paint the grill area. Center peice is totally faded and chrome peice that wraps around lights is bubbled and ugly. I'm pretty handy with a rattle can, but am confused by the chrome peice. It seems like the chrome is actually a big 'sticker'. Can it be sanded off? Has anybody had any success with this?

Thanks,

Jeremy

very nice work. How did you paint the bumpers? rattle can?

...rattle can, yep...i believe it is all spelled out there even which paint i used for which piece...;)
...you might go to a junkyard and get a painted grill to work with, maybe even sell your grill or trade it on here....:D

The "chrome" trim is actually just a big sticker. You can use a heat gun or a torch to take it off. Dont try to sand it and paint over it like i did lol, the paint will just flake off after only a few weeks.

hm, I didn't see a write, just quick explanation and pics. Am I looking at right link?

not a bad idea about swapping grills.

thought so. Thanks for the tip....and the warning!

...i will have to do some searching as you are correct...i know i put that info somewhere, lol...
...just some quick info then, the plastic pieces are painted with krylon fusion and the metal front bumper is dupli-color...the rear metal bumper i sprayed with the krylon fusion also as a test...:D

I thought I was losing it there for a second!

Thanks for info!!

Hmmm, i actually painted over my "chrome" plastic sticker thing 3 1/2 months ago with dupli-color rattle cans with the primer, color coat the top coat then the buffing method and after a lot of car washes and the usual exposure to the elements everyday stuff it has never chipped or flaked off. i havent had that happen yet with the parts that i painted with rattle cans on my mounty. probably it varies on how you prep the area/trim to be painted? :dunno:
