See yall saturday

Ice? :D :D :D BTW, for all of you who have some cheap rubber floor mats laying around (not the expensive Husky liners ;)) bring them along. They make some handy traction helpers on ice, a trick we use often in Switzerland.

weather+

Looking forward to Sat.

The latest weather reports Ive seen are calling for snow and ice, although the trails are a bit west of Harrisonburg so it is probably a few degrees cooler than Harrisonburg, and the temps on Sat are forecast to be 26-36 deg. So come prepared for whatever the weather may be. We may get a snow ride yet!

Later today Ill post an updated attendence list.

See Everyone soon.

Man that is cold! I we might get a flurry or two, that would be nice. I'd rather it not be icy though!

i've never been on a club run or something but i was wondering this....if we are infront of behind of someone that needs to be pulled out and say i pull someone from the front and there tow hook rips off, how do you do that? See what i'm saying. I don't want to be reasonsable for that. Are there any othe 'rules' that you all have like that?

Happy trails!!

Jot

This is not a club run or any sort of reconignized group run. Everyone is responsible for themselves.
Something happens to you- your responsible, if you damage your truck your responsible.

Everone will look out for everyone else, shouldnt be a problem, and the range of experience on this ride will be extreme. So I doubt there will be any problems. But if you need a strap, YOU hook it up using good sense, and who ever is pulling will(should) check out your attachment and you will check out there set up. Then pull, its basically a bunch of checks and balances, but always remember you are the only one responsible for your vehicle, no one is going to do something you dont want to do, but also remember they arent going to be looking out for your interests. Be prepared is the best advice have good tow points, and come equipt.
It will be fun, no doubt!!

wheelin

What are these decals youre talkin about. I might be interested if its not too late. anyway i can see what they look like.

As far as pulling someone out and having something go wrong, i would think it would be the responsibility of the person who is stuck right?? If tow hooks start flyin off then something else is up and its not the person who's pullin fault. Youre trying to help them out you shouldnt take responsibility. now if you dont wait for them to go completely through an obstical like mud hole and rush in right behind and run into them...then theres a problem. Thats the way we do it in the 4wheel club up here at VaTech. and it works fine

OK thats the list as best I can figure for Sat. Copy and update with changes as needed.

Jan 19th meeting at 9:45am at McDormans Store in Rawley Springs.

10am head out to Old Long run road

I plan to run Old Long Run, Down Second mtn (still trying to find status of the gate- if its closed Ill reroute) , probably stop and eat at the power lines on the way down second mtn, back to pavement for a short hop to the start of a trail next to the Dry River, and then with time and interest we can run Kephart Run

The meeting point is 12 or so miles west of Harrisonburg, on rt 33w. It is a little store on the left- the only one with gas pumps. The store does not take credit cards so if you need fuel get it on 33 in or right outside Harrisonburg, plenty of places. Mc Dormans has Sandwiches, Sodas etc if you forget lunch like I usually do

Dress appropriately, it will be colder there than where you are- most likely. Come prepared, gassed up and ready to go, a lunch to eat on the trail, drinks etc. Once we leave in the am, we wont pass a store until the ride home.

You wont need much for this ride, but CB would be good.

I would like everyone to update their attendance the Thursday and Friday before, so I know who to wait for. Im looking forward to seeing some Explorers on the trail!!

If you want my cell number e-mail me and Ill give it to you not a problem. CB we'll run Channel 4.

That's what i figured about the tow hooks and pulling, but i just wanted to double check. I don't want to step on anyones toes but since we are eating on the trail then it might be smart to take something to throw your trash in!

One more thing, i was just wondering the ages we are going with. I don't know, or have met anyone going. I'm 22, i was just curious!
Happy trails!!

Rule #8 of the ECX rules:

#8 The East Coast Xplorer club, it's Event Moderator, Coordinators, and members cannot be held responsible/liable for anything.
You are responsible for anything you do to your vehicle, yourself, your passengers, or any other property. You view our website and come to our events by your own free will and make your own decisions. Therefore, you are the sole person responsible for your actions be they accidental or not.

So any of you guys coming because of the ECX, there's your answer.

Ya already got my hotel, and I'm coming down Friday night, leaving Saturday night. I'm 37 (ugh!!)

Steve -

Looking forward to this weekend. I guess one unresolved issue is the run on Sunday - - are you staying ??

Thought you were committed to other events and if so, it leaves us without a leader for the Sunday run. From previewing some of the other available trails in the thread (provided by Paul Provencher), it seems that there are plenty of well documented trails in the area.

If you cannot stay for Sunday, I'll volunteer to guide a Run (although I have absolutely no experience with the trails in the GWNF). I'll look through the thread today to find something (and take any advice you can offer) as to what trails would be good for Sunday. I'll try to pick out some trails that bisect or comes close to the planned runs on Saturday, so we can at least do a quick "pre-check" while we wheel on the 19th.

Guess there are couple of guys coming this weekend who went last year - - any recommendations, fellas ??

Paul

Michael _ donkey boy Saturday Lodging at home, Age 34 and a half (how my sons put it ;) )

Paul, I think to remeber that Steve is just able to stay on Saturday. I know that there are quite some trails out there, but those are the trails everyone always is using; I think the others are graded for big parts and not too much fun, or closed for through traffic. In the worst case, you could do the same run as on Saturday but the other way round (up Second Mtn, down Old Long Run), which makes it a completely different trip.

Sunday

Paul,

I want to stay, but I have another affair on Sunday. I didnt realize this was going to be a big ride , since last year there were only 5 who wanted to go. Ill bring a map book, and some of the trail reports from Paul Ps site, if you have GPS hes got it way pointed decently(I think Im not GPS literate) . I can help you guys figure something out Saturday evening.

Ill suggest two right now, the run to Flagpole knob, which I ran with Paul P a few weeks ago, and since youll have some more heavily modded vehicles, you could run up Dictum and play on the ledge, the trail is closed past the ledge so you have to turn around and come back down.

Hey Jeff- Im right there with ya- born in Dec 64.

Just for those bringing kids, my 5 year old son will be riding with me

Steve, got ya beat by a month :p !! Nov 64. Your 5 year old will have someone to play with. My 3.75 year old daughter will be riding with my wife and I.

Steve -

Thanks for the info. Had checked the current Sunday Run list and noticed your name was absent. Just thought it would be a good idea to start looking at possible trails for those who stay for Sunday.

I have a GPS and can plug some of the waypoints into it from Paul Provencher's trail info. Flagpole Knob sounds great.

Anyone else who is staying for Sunday have any trail in particular that they want to run??

Paul

I'm staying for the sunday Paul, but i do not know any of the trails, so what ever you want to do, you are our fearless leader!!

I do have a change of plans. I'll be arriving in Harrisonburg around 6 on friday, going to the holiday inn express and, now, i will be there both nights. So that's good for me! Are some of you planning on meeting friday night? My buddy and I won't be drinking because i don't, but we could meet up for dinner, also there was mention a while back about dinner together on saturday night, what ever became of that??

Happy trails!!

DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!

It's a no go for me.

I cracked a header last Sat. night wheelin. I sprayed the mud off and found out. So i guess its ANOTHER gwnf run i can't go to.

So I'll have to wait till next time:mad:
:frustrate :shoot:

Sonofab!tch!!! Not again!
Is it an actual header (metal tubing) or is it a cast-iron manifold? If it's a header, you can just have it spot welded.
