Having trouble removing a busted EGR tube

The EGR tube on my '97 V8 has cracked in half. I can get the half that's attached to the manifold off, but I cannot seem to break the bolt that screws into the EGR itself. I fought it for 2-3 hours last night with no movement whatsoever.

I've tried WD-40'ing it, but gravity tends to not be very helpful. If it helps, it snapped in half in the middle of the corrugated part closer to the manifold.

Just get a new egr valve and tube
Done!

You might try taking the egr valve off, putting it in a vise, then heat it with a torch a bit
Make sure to use anti seize compund when reassembling.
 






would it help to remove the EGR itself from the intake elbow so you can work on it out of the vehicle?

If so then you mine as well get started doing that.
On my BII with your 5.0L in it I know I have to remove the throttle body and some other parts in order to get the access I need to pull the EGR diaphram (where the EGR tube bolts on) off of the vehicle.

But this process only takes a few minutes once you have done it once or twice, it can actually save you time in the long run.....

i am not yours bigolly i am a human not a posesion(sp). Is there a diagram around here that shows the egr sytem or whatever it is.
 






I had to remove my EGR to get the top of the tube off.

Thats a job in itself!
 






I had the same problem when I installed my headers. I ended up removing the entire intake elbow off of the engine, then removed the EGR valve, and then was able to remove the tube.
 






I did mine with a really big

combination wrench. Auto shop wanted to pull the intake ($$$). I removed the air inlet hose, and went after it with a large Craftsman combo wrench. Ta Da! Even if you have to buy the wrench, it'll cost WAY less than a mechanic.
 






Well, as it turns out, I couldn't get that EGR tube off.

I wound up taking off the throttle body and the EGR spacer, and then got the EGR valve off the spacer. Put the valve in a vise, and still couldn't get that bugger off.

Decided it was just easier to get a new EGR valve, and $110 later, everything fit together, and no annoying clicking noise.
