so i have a 96 xlt 4.0 and for the past week or so the right headlight keeps going out. it bursts inside the housing and i cant figure out why, i checked the fuse and the wiring harness and both were fine. the left one has only blown once and it happened a week or so before the right one went out. but that one didnt explode, just burnt out i guess. its a very annoying problem considering im a delivery driver and i work at night. any advice will help, i dont know where to go from here without going to a mechanic.

Water hitting the hot bulbs will make them explode.. Check for moister in the head light assembly.

Did you touch the bulb glass while you were installing it? Finger oil will make them explode.

Either be careful while installing them, or wear latex gloves. Never touch the glass!

...as they said....

It's either WATER in the lens, or improper handling.

Rubber Gloves while handling bulbs. ALWAYS.

I've never used rubber gloves to install a light bulb... I just wipe the bulb down with isopropyl alcohol on a rag and let it dry before installing it in the housing, being careful not to touch it afterwards, of course. Gloves are cheap insurance, but unnecessary.

I, too, agree that the problem is either moisture hitting the bulb, or oils from the installer's skin deposited on the glass.
