I have been using hi performance bulbs in my X for quite some time. I've used Kryptonite, Eurolite and Silverstar. The ractive and Silverstar where junk and burned out in less than 6 months. Also Silverstar where not much better than stock. The Kryptonite bulbs had a great blueish tint.

With the Silverstar burnt out I am thinking of PIAA Extreme White but $85 is steep, especially if they crap out in a few months.

Any other options for bulbs that work good and last a bit? Also has anyone done a basic LED upgrade with the resistors ands bulbs?

When I switched to Silver Stars years ago, I noticed quite a difference from the stock bulbs.

I have not had any trouble with them burning out either.

I use them in the headlights, fog lights and front turn signals.

Man, you better pop those Silver Stars in again and take a look. If your headlights are all yellowish and nasty looking, of course they will look bad.

Perhaps I exagerated just a bit. But the silverstars don't look nearly as good as other high end bulbs. Not nearly like HID, my Kryptonite bulbs looked nice and white somewhat like HID.

You didnt touch the bare bulb with your fingers did you ??? , Silverstars are still just halogen bulbs and should not come into contact with bare skin. Also compairing Silverstars to HID is like compairing apples to Pumpkins...they will never perform like HID.

PS where are you getting the HID kit ?? is it a turnkey system or are you buying seperate components and rolling your own.....this is something I am thinking about in the future for my 94 Limited ...... thanks

i'm actuly real happy with my silver stars. i have had them over a year and they still put out a nice white light.

i got a HID kit..supposed to be a decent kit. but the seller was removed from the site i bought it because he took over a month to ship my kit out. but if you want one for a decent price PM me. i'll have more info on how i like it once i get it installed and try them out.

I traded in my '00 Sport with Silverstars still in and they had almost 2 years on them. Can't comment on the latest set because they've only been in the Eddie for a month or so. They're definitely better than stock, IMHO. Those PIAA bulbs are just way too pricey and I've never seen any good press to suggest they're worth the price. I'll stick with Silverstars myself unless something better comes along for the price.

I agree Brad. I had my Silverstars in my '99 Explorer, then I put them in my 03 Supercrew and now they are in my Dad's 99 F-250. They have lasted almost 2 years and 3 vehicles with no problems. The PIAA's just aren't worth it at more than double the price of the Silverstars.

I have 5500k HIDs. They have great light output, but you lose you high beams. I never drive it out of town, so I never use high beams.

and it is my opinion that tinted bulbs are stupid. You arent getting any more light output UNLESS they are higher wattage bulbs. Higher output clear bulbs would be better. And when tinted bulbs are in diamond type headlights, your lights look all blue even when they arent on.

I like my SilverStars even though they've only been in a short time, more light output that stock.

what i hate is when people have those insanely bright headlights that arent aimed right or something, so that when I approach and then pass them on a 2 lane highway at night i'm completely night blinded for 20 seconds...

seems to be a growing problem...

Here's one

The Silverstars where much better than stock but I had another set of aftermarket bulbs I think Krypton or something and they were much whiter in color. In my opinion the whiter color makes night driving easier.

I was very surprised when I found one of my headlights out recently. At least Silverstar sells singels if I want to spend $22 and ahve the thing fixed.

Had a set of Eurolights in that I paid $40 for at Circuit City and both bulbs crapped out at the same time about 6 months later. The color was nice though. Eurolights has a new bulb the EB series, that is rated at 4100k and can be had for $29 online. One thing thats stopped me from going with some of the japanese imports is the fact that they are not DOT approved- What does that mean anyway?

That's what an HID conversion kit does for you. If they aren't in proper lenses made for them they blind other people a lot.

As for Silverstars, I've had my headlights for about 1.5 years and my fogs have been in about 3-4 months. The headlights are still going strong. Haven't had one issue with them. So much brighter than stock. I absolutely love them.

you can upgrade to HID and keep your high beams- just buy the right kit.

the silverstars barely do anything- come on guys, i know you want to justify your purchase, but you know they are like 5% better than stock- if that.

check out these new biXenon 9007s.....no more making an H4 bulb fit out housings:)

I have GE Nighthawk bulbs for my headllights and after the novelty wore off I don't think they're much better than stock.

Since I only had one light out and they sell Silverstar in single packs i just went with that. When replacing the bulb I noticed it had exploded and the only thing left was the filaments.

There was some condensation on the inside lens of the headlight but there does not appear to be any leaks. I wonder what caused this bulb to explode in such a way. I cleaned it throghouly with Alcohol before I put it in wearing cotton gloves.
