Heat Cool Blend Issue

My 2010 XLT 4X4 Explorer's heater was on when leaving this morning.When I selected the cool vent setting on the temp control I got more heat,never was that hot before,a thudding sound came from somewhere in the dash.A friend mentioned it might be an blending actuator.Are they expensive to have repaired?After moving the fan switch a few times cool outside air started to flow.It just started acting up today.It has 32,000 miles on It and considering buying another vehicle.
