On my 95 Limited, the heater motor stays on, even with the key out of the ignition! Needless to say, this makes starting impossible the next day. Does anyone out there have any experience with this problem???

Thanks

Replace the relay for the blower motor. They stick. Not sure which one it is though. Check your owners manual.

I am having the same problem with my 95 eddie bauer. I thought a relay was out. I went to find it in the relay box by the passenger side headlamp. I looked in the box and the blower relay slot was empty. I figured this had to be because of the digital climate controls. I pulled the control unit and pulled both electrical plugs out of the back and the blower was still on. I am now stuck. I find any thing out I will post. Good luck!

There are relays contained in the distribution box on the drivers side in the engine compartment near the master cylinder/brake booster. It will be located there.

I'm not sure where you are looking.

My blower motor resistor fried out on mine about a month ago, leaving me with only high on my blower.I was making do with that as I was putting off changing the resister however after about a week my heater fan started staying on after I shut off the key.I started running down the connectors one by one with the blower on and the key off.I wiggled wires did this and that, but it turned out to be the connector with the two heavy wires in the harness to the blower and resistor. When I pulled it apart it was black and burnt looking.Nothing looked melted so I scraped it and cleaned it up and put it back together. It has been working right since although I don't really understand why that kept it from shutting off with the key since it was not melted with wires touching. You might check that connector just for gits and shiggles.
My parts truck is down at my Dad's about a 100mi. away but I'm going down this weekend to get the resistor and that connector to be on the safe side.

this might help.
It is for 98, but might be similar

I check my owners guide for the 95 and there is no blower relay in the distribution box, only a fuse.My haynes manual said the relay would be in the fuse box by the right front headlamp. I am going to pull all of the relays in this box and see what I find. Thanks for the help.

It makes sense to me that a relay could be bad. Now, all I have to do is find it and replace it. jtsmith, thanks for the scan, but the 95 explorer is different. I'm going to dig into this weekend. hckyrugb, please keep me posted on what you find.
Thanks all for the input.

I spoke to my local ford dealership and was told that Explorers with automatic climate control have a special relay ($136) in place of the resistor that is mounted on the heater box. No cheap fix on this one, I guess.
Thanks for the input.

tHANKS FOR THE INFO DJLIMITED. I had checked all the relays in the engine compartment with no luck. This makes sense. I guess I will have to bite the bullet on this one.

Djlimited, I figured a cheap fix for the blower relay. I cut the pink and black wire going to the blower and put a SPST switch in that I mounted in the cab. I know its not the best fix, but it only cost $4 and a little time! Thought this may be helpful if you are on a budget like me.
