Let me say "hello" and that I really like this site. I found you by Googling for a V/8 engine swap into a 1999 Explorer Sport AWD. The Explorer is Jayne, my wife's daily driver. The Explorer is absolutely mint. She loves it but, I have a couple 5.0 HO engines in the garage. Is this a difficult swap and will the AWD handle V/8 torque?

I'm really ignorant on the internals of an Explorer and can use the input. If there is anything I might help you with, please let me know. I will post pictures of her Explorer soon.

Thanks for having a great site and I look forward to learning more.

Yes the T-case will handle the V8. 4 door Explorers up to 2001 had the 5.0 as an option.

You will need to use a 4R70W transmission though.

the HO engine likely doesnt make enough power to make the swap worth while IMO.

Is her 99 a SOHC or OHV 4.0L V6?

You cannot keep the same transmission and T case for the new V8

Welcome!

Good thing Jaime is here. I forgot the out put on the 4R70W was different.

Thanks for the welcome.

The 1999 is a two-door with the OHC V/6. The window sticker said it came from the factory with 4.10:1 gears front and back.

BTW, Should I take this line of inquiry to another forum? Don't want to screw up the first day.

If you post a thread in the wrong spot a moderator will move it for you.
I think a 5;0L conversion topic can fit in the "under hood" forum.....

Look around you will find MANY V8 conversions on this site.

IMO the single best way to convert a 99 truck to a 5.0L V8 is to buy a 96-2001 donor with a V8 and bolt it all in, cheapest, easiest, least time consming.

The 96-01 Explorer 5.0L was the best 5.0L Ford ever used in anything, full roller block, GT-40 heads and intakes, its bulletproof and makes that HO engine look small
