oh and my brakes are shot all round as well - including handbrake which is seized.. any recommendations?

other than that it is going well!

The front shaft is an expensive part, many people buy used shafts on eBay etc. for about $50. They raised the rebuild prices of those at some time in the past, Ford is over $400 for it, I have read recently.

Bleed all of the brake fluid until clean, and install quality brake pads, I like the EBC brand. Good luck,

I have a used shaft for sale off my '99. Not sure what it would cost to ship it there though:rolleyes: $50+ shipping and it's yours. Also if you want I'll go pick up and a extra UJ for the future. I think thay are only 10-20 bucks

If you are talking about the UJ by the front axle then they are easy to replace. You can get one from http://www.usautomotive.co.uk/ . Last time I got one they were about £15. As for brakes I put Power Slots with Hawk pads and the stopping power went up dramatically.

Thanks all:thumbsup:

Sounds like Howards option is the best as it is in the UK!

How much were the power slots and hawk pads - and where from?

Thanks :D

Got them from the same place. Memory getting hazy but about £500 for the disks and £150 for the pads, but worth every penny. I'm on my second set of pads now after the first lasted for 35k approx.

Brake Parts as cheap as you'll get

Last time round I fitted these and they brake well. They're only £69.99 plus post for discs and pads. Regularly available but this item no for 23 hrs

Ok, so I said I was not that good at mechanics

It is actually the CV joint that is knackered

Can I get this separate from the driveshaft?

You can buy the CV joint separate from the halfshaft, or you can buy the halfshaft complete with both the inner and outer CV joints. How you buy it depends on where you are getting the parts from.

It is going to be a lot cheaper i would have though just to buy the CV joint from Ford if they will let you, then to buy the whole halfshaft with both CV joints on it from Ford. However if you are going to order from the US it seems to be cheaper it buy the whole halfshaft with the both cv joints.

There is one CV joint on the rear of it, and a u-joint on the front. The aftermarket shafts are the cheapest, I have read them to be under $200 to over $280.

The used shafts on here and eBay generally go for around $50. It is a hard call, especially if you are that far away from most sources. A lot of members here have been fortunate with those used units. For there I would likely search very hard for a shaft which had a new CV joint, to compare prices. Good luck,
