Help - P0442 Code Evap system small leak

Fool the IAT sensor? What does that do? And how do I do that?
It involves inserting extra resistance into the signal line from the IAT sensor to the PCM so that the signal seen by the PCM is such that it registers under 40F. Pretty much like the ripoff resistor mods sold for years on ebay that promised massive increases in horsepower or fuel economy. Or, you can just keep the tank full as I already suggested to inhibit the evap monitor.

There is no such thing as a fuel system "sensor". The fuel system monitor tests the ability of the PCM to accurately, within limits, control the fueling of the engine. This includes the MAF sensor, O2 sensors, and a host of others that have to be working correctly. There is a very extensive write-up in the previously referenced OBDII manual. See it for details.

You will likely find that only the evap monitor is permitted to be incomplete on this new of a vehicle. Check with your local jurisdiction for specific details.

Thanks. Yeah, they said it'll pass with only the Evap not ready. I just have to get it to pass the fuel system test then I can get it tested. I'll read up on it and see what I can do to get it "ready" And I'll just keep the tank full to get it to bypass the Evap test.

Ok, I'm at my wits end with it now! Just filled it up and reset the codes and did a "driving cycle" that's supposed to get the fuel monitor ready and I got a p013a pending code now! 02sensor slow response rich to lean B1S2 I'm assuming this might be tied in to the fuel system monitor?

Check for an exhaust leak between the O2 sensors on the driver's side first. Yes, it that portion of the monitor was marginal, it may prevent the monitor from running to completion.

That's what I was thinking but the owner just had new cats installed and I can't hear anything but I'll crawl under it and check.

No leaks and it has new 02 sensors on it.

just had new cats installed
That, by itself, is enough for me to justify an inspection to make certain there are no leaks, especially if the work was done elsewhere. Also, if aftermarket cats were installed, I'd put them on the suspect list.

I checked for leaks and there aren't any. Felt around all joined pipes and didn't feel anything. As far as the cats, he had it done at a muffler shop but I'm not sure if they're aftermarket or not.

Hey everyone,

I am working on my 2015 FPIU, since I have a P0442 EVAP small leak code. I used a smoke machine and fixed a loose rubber band. However when I turned the machine on again it got worse: almost every hole at the bottom of the car is now leaking smoke. I assume there might be a loose plug somewhere around the back wheel on the passenger side (where most smoke comes from), but since I have no fixing experience on I have no idea what’s going on. Is there any suggestions that I can quickly find the leaking location?

Also what’s strange is that I went to Ford dealer like a year ago, the error code was P0430 and P0420 (which was for malfunctioning catalytic converters), and they detected a leak on fuel tank. I did not repair that then months later it became 442 which is evap leak issue. Can someone help me understand this?
Thanks in advance!

Please let me know if you need any photos or videos for reference! I just put my car down for tomorrow’s use but I did take some videos

Welcome to the Forum.
Your thread was merged with this existing one on the same issue.
Good luck and please report back when it's resolved. Thanks.

Went to the dealer to get diagnosed, found out there is a hole at the top of the gas tank, so they replaced it which cost me more than $2k.

A little late now since he took it to a local dealer who already replaced it...
I realize that as stated in the post. It was intended more to show the differences between Ford prices and those of our forum's vendor. Perhaps it may serve to inform others.

All good… this is not a common problem, the previous sheriff department must drilled the floor and accidentally got the fuel tank. That’s why the hole is at the top of the tank. I got few pictures on the old part below.

Also I got a question:
The dealer who sold this car to me (no I did not get it from auction) never told me anything about this issue, and it was more than a year since I purchased it, is it necessary to sue them (I called in and they just send me to a service shop which quoted $1.8k)

Was it not possible to seal that hole?

Nah, since the hole is at top, they need to remove it to find it. One from the dealer said it cannot be sealed completely and another guy said the fuel tank is pressurized so it is useless to seal it (which I am so unsure). Is that even true? I went to several shops and they all denied to repair, Midas said the part is dealer only, and if I bring my own part (I saw a used one for $300) their labor would go up to 3k
