In the process of installing the BTF lift on my 2003, I have come across a problem. I removed the nut holding the top ball joint to the "L" shaped arm. Now, I can't get the arm to separate from the ball joint. I've used hammers, crow bars, and tried everything else. Shouldn't it just fall down off the threads? Any help would be appreciated.

If you tap the knuckle(L shaped arm) where the upper ball joint goes through it should come apart pretty easily.

You might need a ball joint fork thing that wedges the ball joint out.

Another trick is to use two heavy hammers(think mini sledge). Rest one hammer on the opposite side of where you are going to hit and then hit with the other hammer. Something my gramps taught me and it works. Make sure you hit it HARD!

Hopefully someone who has done the lift will chime in and say how they did it.

Well we've pounded the crap out of it using a large hammer already. Already tried soaking it with WD-40. Used massive crow bars to leverage it against the upper "A" arm and pry down. So far we've done more damage than good. Is there something obvious were missing?

Probably just stuck like hell. I had the same problem with the drivers side ball joint, the passenger side one popped right out, was a real pain. Only thing I can suggest is keep trying. :/

Easiest way is to use a balljoint fork. Make sure you get a large enough one though. If need-be you can always use use two forks; one ontop of the other. You can use a tie rod puller too.

ball joint fork. rent it from autozone and get your money back

Thank you all for you fast responses. I purchased a ball joint fork, but it did nothing at all, lol. We finally grabbed the giant sledge hammer and it came loose. That being the only holdup, the lift was fairly easy to do. Can't wait to hit the trails!
