Hey I'm new here, have been looking into the archives of this forum, but never found an answer so I have decided to post. First of all, I have a 1995 Ford Ex. Eddie Bauer 4.0L v6, automatic, and have been having this problem for about oh 5-6 months now. Was bought used. I am at about 177,000 miles. Don't know much about the past maintenance of the vehicle, other than I really need a radiator because it is leaking, and I did plugs/wires, fuel filter/lines, fuel pump, timing belt and tensioner, VSS, and oil/fluid changes. I just don't know why, but when I am driving along, when the vehicle changes into 2nd, it has a pretty good jerk and then the OD off light starts blinking. Also, all shifting is hard, and the speedometer AND odometer are not working. All other guages work as normal. I checked/changed so far: Checked all fuses, replaced VSS, fuel pump, tranny fluid, tensioner and timing belt. Does anyone have any idea of what I can do? I checked for a speedo cable too to see if it rattled loose, but 95 and up do not have one of course, so I don't know. It is odd though that only the speedo/odometers went out. Maybe this helps?

if your OD light is flashing pull the computer codes
and dont keep driving it unless you dont mind buying a new transmission REAL soon

with 177K might need one anyways

Ohhhh, been driving it about 3-5k miles :( :(...also, do you know anywhere that can pull the codes for free because I'm a little tight on $ right now.

Autozone
95 is a odd year, it has a EEC-IV computer with a OBD-II diagnostics port under the dash, so they may/may not have the scanner you need.

I think with the 95 you can do a self test with a jumper wire, you shoudl try a search on this forum

A flashing OD light means the transmission is in default mode, and running at full line pressure and driving it will kill it
It also means the fault is likely in a shift solenoid or the wiring to it, could be an internal transmission issue, but I am no expert, you can search its dscussed here alot

the code is where to start though.

Good luck!

Thanks, that helps a lot, never thought of doing a self-test, maybe I can find it on here. I'm off to search. Any other ideas = more than welcome :)

Anyone else? Couldn't find that box I needed to find, nor do I have a voltmeter/test light...:(
