help with rpm's and idle issue

welp here's an update
went out and got a pressure tester, 10psi when key turned, then slowly dies down to zero, and when truck runs, 31psi with all vacume lines connected, the first time i did it accidently disconnected the line going to the fpr so it read 41psi
hope that helps
still smels of gas, but i just cant really tell where its comeing from, its not in the cab or the engine area, i will try and reseat the fpr's o-ring maybe tomorrow, i got some 30w oil so i will put that on it, the only problem with that is, how much to put on and just where do it put the oil exactaly?

ok redid the fpr, put 30w oil on it, unfortunitly the pressure stays at 31psi while running, and then droping to 10 when i turn the key off and quickly going to 0psi, intresting to note tho if it will help anyone who might know, i pulled the hose off the intake that goes to the fpr, it stayed at 31psi, till i put my finger on the intake hole, then it went up to 41psi so im at a total loss as to what the hell to do anymore, im running out of money trying to trouble shoot this stupid thing

im not exactly sure, but i dont think it should drop down to zero psi when you shut it off.. i think it should hold some amount of pressure with the engine off, hint the fuel pump primes when you turn the ignition on therefor building fuel pressure.. i would check in your haynes book or call ford to see what the fuel pressure should be with the motor running and off, but with the ignition on. ive never tested mine so im not sure what the psi is suppose to hold at, but from the guess im going by, it sounds like you could have a weak fuel pump.

i have to prime it 2 or 3 times for it to start right away so im thinking the fuel pump as well
but from what i've read, the pressure is supposed to stay steady even with it off, but i keep reading diffrient things

it very well could be the pump my friend. if you have to prime it like that for it to start, that means its very weak and could be causing all of these problems.

just a thought, if you end up replacing the pump, i would go straight to ford and get it.. it might be pricey, but you will know for sure that it will last you another good 150,000 miles and it will save you the trouble of having to replace it a 3rd time because a cheaper one from autozone dies at 50,000.

i go to ford for any major parts on my truck, i dont even think twice about it.

i tell ya if i had my way i would most definitly go to the ford place, but unfortunitly my budget's tighter then a virgin at this point :( but its nice to know what will last longer

agreed, tho i did not replace mine with a motorcraft pump ( which is expensive to say the least ) i bought a bosch with a lifetime replacement from advance auto .the first pump i bought was about $30 cheaper than the bosch but after i installed this cheapo pump it failed on me withen 3 days ! so i had redo the pump TWICE ...lesson learned .

yeah it sure is, well whatever you end up doing, dont replace it with a reman pump.. thats just asking for it right there.. drive it till the pump dies if you have to, ive had lots of bad luck with reman parts

thats just the sending unit, the pump is not included.. thats why its soo cheap

ok what am i missing? it says Vehicle: 1991 FORD EXPLORER
Engine: V6 4.0 Liter FI

Sender Assembly; Includes Fuel Pump, Sender, Float & Strainer

on that page

i think you gave me the wrong link then, its saying its just the sending unit o-rings and seals as far as i can see..

looks like you should be all set, you should be able to find a write up on how to replace it pretty quick.. ive seen a couple on here

so was that the right link? it doesnt look like it pasted correctly

well yes and no, i brought up the same page as the first one, i just went back and re selected the make and model and then it showed what all it included.. 99.99 right?

yeah thats it
i just dont get why its so cheap when it includes everything?

im not quite sure, ive never seen one that cheap before

i know, kinda worries me alittle lol
too good to be true sort of thing
