...does it feel like the linkage is working and it just won't go into gear??? if the linkage does not feel like it is connected, crawll underneath with your wheels blocked and parking brake on , key off, and see if you can move the linkage first...

...wait a minute, look at your colmn in the engine compartment...there is an arm with a cable to it located just under the steering shaft, towards the bottom...

The linkage doesnt look like its moving with the selector. I have moved it from under the truck but it doesnt seem to do anything... Any ideas why it wont start? its like its not completeling the neutral starting switch

...first, read my post # 3, that is how it is connected from steering column to trans...in the mist of playing with the shifter and this coming apart, i would believe that your park/neutral switch may have went south at the same time...

...have you found the problem...??? :D

OK so I went and looked, took me a bit but its dark and couldnt find the trouble light. SO the part was disconected and I could put it back on but it isnt very secure, is there a way to fix that? When I pushed it on, it felt like it was moving through the gears, but still no start. What do I do to fix the start?

again thanks for the help

...in the daylight you will have to look and make the connection secure first and with daylight you will see what you need to make it secure...btw, there is a boot and clip that make the connection complete...;)

...as for not starting, and you are able to now move normally thru the gears, on your column behind the removable compartment at the bottom, you have a park/neutral safety switch which can be picked up at the part store...

Ok thanks, I will try to find that tomorrow

alright, Im blind, I have no clue where the neutral starting switch is. Also my dad on another hunch tried boosting it and starting it and it worked, let it run for a bit, turned it off, tried to start it again without the boost, still nothing. There is a charger on the battery right now but it doesnt seem to be making a difference to the truck starting. There seems to be lots of juice from the battery so Im kinda at a loss as to why it would start when it was being boosted.

ANy ideas?

...i'm sorry wrong vehicle, i got to many ford's, lol...the neutral start switch according to haynes is located on the transmission housing....;)
...here is a link of what it looks like...:D

Ok, so figured it out, turns out the new ground that we put on yesterday is flawed, so I will have to redo the negative terminal and fix the loose conections. Thanks for the help, as far as fixing that connection between the shifter and the tranny, It looks like it just pushes on yet it wont clamp around the ball, can I replace that> is it hard? sorry for all the newbie questions, ive just been running into a lot of walls lately and Im getting a wee bit frustrated

...i hate shorts, lol....anyways, here is a pic of my connection and no, i'm not selling my headers, lol...good luck...:D

I have no trouble finding or getting to the connector, but it just seems like it will fall off again. Im just not sure what to do to refasten it

...sounds like you may need to replace a warn part then...;)

So ive looked and I havent been able to find that part, the ford parts guy didnt have a clue what I was talking about. Can someone point me in the right direction?

...go to the forums page and at the bottom click on kbabiak....he will have a part for you....show him the pic...;)
