I see that many people have and use a Hi-Lift jack.

Where do you put it on your vehicle. My buddy with a Jeep is afraid to use it and we both looked at my X and didn't think there was any safe place to connect it to.

Any help? Pics would be nice. I basically am stock, but going with 33s in the next month so I might need it for a regular jack. Also, no rock sliders at this point.

Thanks

I have mine on my roof rack, but you can buy the bumper mounts and put it on either front or rear bumper.

I think he is referring to actually using it to lift the vehicle. You can buy a tool from Hi Lift that essentially has a J shaped hook on it that attaches to the arm that sticks off the Hi Lift via a short chain. My buddy had one, the idea behind it is to reach it under the bumper and hook it to something more substantial than the bumper.
Not 100% sure where to get it, try Hi Lift or www.northerntool.com

On a stock Ex, there really is nowhere to hook a high lift jack, unless you buy the bumper tool that was talked about, and even then it only works on steel bumpers (so on a 98+ just the rear bumper).

Most of the people I know tht have high-lifts have non-stock bumpers and/or rock sliders to jack from.

Also realize that the a high-lift is very inefficient for removing a tire since you have to jack the frame up high enough to let the suspension come to full droop before lifting the tire off the ground.

I still carry around the stock bottle jack for removing a tire, and have yet to use my high-lift on my own vehicle in the 2 years i've had it.

Oops! Hee Hee! I not stupid, I'll keep on saying that. I would do eveything suggested above.

i use it to get ppl out from being stuck! i've used it on the X but put it on the rear bumper in the middle under the metal.

now that i have the tow point back there i lift from under there.

pics are in the sig.

Thank you all, that's what I was looking for.

ahhjaws --> don't worry, it would have been my next question ;) :D

So with a Gen 2 (1997) I could jack from the front/rear bumpers (steel) without problems?

Since the question has been raised where would I go for rock sliders/customer bumper? I've seen many but never got much info on where, since they're all custom jobs.

for bumpers, all the members on here have made there own.

as for rock slidders, there's a guiy on here that is selling them. coryL is also selling them. search and you'll get the threads i'm talking about.

Thanks,

Digger you ride ROCKS!! I just checked the pics.

So you don't have a BL? 32" MT with TT/Shackles?

no BL but adding one this summer with some rock slidders for a guy here or from CoryL.

thanks for the complements.

i have TT/shackles/AAL and new shocks which helped alot. old ones where wearing out alot!

Always remember to put the Jack as close as possible to the bumper, and hold it straight, to pevent slippage....

Also, if you don't want to scratch your bumpers, a little piece of rag in between the bar and the bumper works good...

scratches are not good? dangit!

I've used it on my rear bumper before, no problems. Just keep it stable, because it wants to fall over without the extended base.

I would definitely not use it on the front bumper at all.

tenikiwon,
Since you have a 97, it would be easy to mount GM fullsize tow hooks to your front frame, then you could use the GM tow hooks to jack your truck up with a hi-lift jack. That is what I used to do before I got the winch mount/grill guard. GM tow hooks will cost you less than 20 bucks, then you will need 2 metal blocks drilled to the same hole widgth as the tow hooks and then make one hole into the from and mount your hooksthere is already one hole there on the frame. I think I still have my old blocks for the original way I mounted my tow hooks. do you want to buy them?
