HID fog lights question.

Neighbor has a 2008 Explorer, put 8000k's in the stock headlights, and 8000k's in the stock foglights; and its not the least bit blinding or bright to oncoming traffic.

And since when was the 4th gen and the LATE 2nd gen even remotely similar except for the "Explorer" label? I've got a '99 which is almost identical to the '00 that it replaced. Original poster has a '00.

See where I'm going with this one?

Those look pretty cool, do you have any pics with them? Are they brighter than your headlights?

On, yes the headlights are on too. They are much brighter then my headlights. They are 6000k 50w HID's, which is closer to 5000k, since the 50w washes some of the color out.

Those look great. Having HIDs in projector housing would make a world of difference to keep the beam focused.

Thanks for the pics!
I might look into a set of those for replacing my fogs too, are they holding up well with the 50 watts? Some say the bulbs get extremely hot and can melt the housing

No problems so far. Had them about a year now. I have heard that HID's run cooler then halogen's of the same watts.

Hows the pattern on the road? (Wondering if theyre like my headlights projectors with the cutoff?)

Im very interested in getting a pair, thanks alot for sharing those man!

HID, because of the intense brightness, will bring any deficiency in a light housing to your visible notice. HID in a set of PIAA projectors looked terrible and these were great lights with 100 watt halogen bulbs. With HID there were very noticeable dark/shadow areas in the beam pattern. Not all projectors are able to handle the HID brightness.
I have used the Hella Micro DE fog with HID and it is great. Same light pattern just a whole lot brighter. Great cut-off and even spread. No shadow area.
Now thses were 35Watt. Gonna try some 50?watt bulbs/kit and see what they do.
Not worried about melting as HID is lower heat than halogen of the same watts. No problem there.

Damn those Hella Micro's are expensive! They have a good name and reputation to back them up though.

I never thought of it that way with the 50w HIDs, normal bulbs are 55w, I just remember a while back reading so much about how some housings can only handle 35w HIDs because of the heat and small space.

These do have a cutoff, but they aren't as clean as the Hella Micro's. I bought these as the Hella's were a little out of my price range.

Yea the Hella's would be hella nice :p: But thats way out of my range. Did you have any fitment issues putting the HID bulb in?

Nope. Went right in. I made some L-shaped brackets out of 1/8 inch steel to bolt them onto the bumper brackets. This is the seller I bought them from. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hell...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories It has a little more info and the pattern. They are the same as the earlier post, but a little more money. At the time this was the only seller selling them. It says they have hella lenses in them.
