High brake light (the one up high on the rear window), flickers all the time, not just when brake pedal is pushed.

Would like to change-out the switch. Is it located behind the brake pedal lever under the dash?

Yup, right behind the brake pedal. Sounds like you may have a short in your switch. Should only take you like 10 minutes to replace. 2 wires and some screws. If it only flickered when you pushed the brakes, then I would say it was your light bulb holder in the light itself, but you say it does it on its own with no pushy pushy on the pedal. So I agree, got to be the switch. Probably not a very expensive part. just a small pressure switch.

Good luck.

If you need anymore help on anything, this is the place to be. The search option will help a lot too. Millions of words here about the explorer.

Welcome to the sight, and again, good luck.
