Will do! My daughter can hear the High pitch sound too! After driving 30 min or so, the sound seems to reduce. Have you noticed that? We have put 600 miles on so far.
Still seem to hear it at 600 miles also..its putting the sound in my own ears even when I am not in the car

Hello,

My wife and I just recently purchased a new 2017 Explorer Sport after trading in our 2010 Limited Explorer because of multiple mechanical problems. As luck will have it we are having problems with the power liftgate not opening and this is being fixed under warranty. The bigger issue I have is that there is a constant high pitch buzzing sound coming from the interior and its on only when the ignition is on. Once the vehicle is turned off and there is still power running to the stereo and electronics the noise stops. I also turned the stereo power off with the ignition on and the noise is still there. I can't really isolate the sound to a specific area as it seems to resonate throughout the inside of the vehicle.

I work at the Ford dealership that I bought the vehicle from and they said that this is a "normal" sound these vehicles make. Sure enough I went into 2 other brand new 2017 explorer sports on the lot and once I started them they would make this noise as well. They did sound a bit more faint but still there none the less. I emailed Ford customer service and just received a generic response of go to your service department to have this looked at. The best guess that one of the service technicians had was that it is from the fuel pump but they won't replace it as there is not any mechanical issues with it.

I wanted to see if there are other people who are experiencing this problem. It is a very irritating sound and after paying a lot of money for a new vehicle I don't expect to have this kind of issue to deal with. I am hoping that I can identify the source of this noise and if it is common in other Explorer's then Ford can be made aware of it and issue a TSB.

Thanks for your help!

Mark

A member posted in another thread that neither the Sport nor the Platinum have the Ecoboost Sound Enhancement.

The noise is only there when engine running. It is not there when accessories only mode is activated. I have not brought it to the dealer yet. I had the 2014 sport and it did not have this sound. I hear it more by the glove box area. Is this where the computer is? Do you think the dealer would be able to fix this?

exactly what I am experiencing with my 2017 explorer sport as well. I am curious as to the source of this sound? I work at a Ford dealership and I started 2 other new 2017 explorer sport's and they have this same sound as well.

We are taking ours in to see if Service Dept has a clue. Sounds like S common issue so hopefully we can get a resolution.

On my 2017 sport it seems to be the loudest in my car right under the glove box. There is something bolted on underneath but I dont know what it is.

I am going to bring mine in as soon as a get a chance. My dealer in 40 miles away and I hate to have to go back and fourth to fix this. I am hoping with all the cars involved they might find it.

I just went outside, started up the explorer and the same for me. It seems to be making the sound from this same area. I just find it odd that if so many vehicles have this same issue that there is not a TSB or the source has not been identified as of yet?

Anybody care to record a video and do a walk around until they get to the area that the sound is coming from?

Well I just got my '17 Sport back from the 2nd Ford service department within the past week and they have also said that this constant high pitch noise is "normal". The irony is that I got a ride home in the dealerships shuttle vehicle which was a 2017 Explorer XLT. I listened specifically under the passenger side glove box area where the noise seems to be originating from and it was silent. The service department said that they called the Ford hotline to see if there were any other known cases or fixes for this issue but they could not confirm that there is any solution or even what the origin of this noise might be. I said that I would like to get an explanation of why a cheaper model XLT does not have this same noise as the Sport model and if they can look into what the difference in electrical components might be between these models with reference to the glove box area. They told me to lodge a complaint with Ford of Canada. I already did this and I received a typical canned response of contact your service department. Just like a dog chasing its tail, I'm going in a circle with this. So after all of this we are expected to live with this noise as its "normal" - and maybe its just me that's not so normal...lol.

Going back over this thread there are actually only 3 members reporting having this issue and they all have a Sport. Have you tried to get another Sport to test drive to see if it has the same noise?

OK Guys I have good news about the high pitch noise. My dealer found out where it is coming from. It is coming from the 12 volt to 120 volt inverter that is up under the dash above the glove box. That is why I said I heard it there. He had to order that part for me as Ford has a revision for it and it will not be in until end of May. But the mechanic just took out the fuse for it and now I have my sanity back again. I seldom use those 120 volt outlets anyway.

After reading through the service report from the technician mine says that they "suspect" the noise is coming from the dc/ac inverter as they disconnected it and the noise was no longer there so this is just further confirmation. They did say this was "normal" as they went in a few other new sport's and this noise was also present. I also pulled the dc/ac inverter fuse and an confirm that the noise is no longer present. Is it the inverter that they are replacing? Can you please update me once your dealer has this part changed out for you and confirmed that it is repaired?

Thanks for your post.

Did they show you which fuse to pull? This is great news!!! My wife will be happy as hell

Heck I'll take the fuse out and plug it back in as needed until they Warranty this
In reading post #33, it looks like they are replacing it under warranty. At least that is my understanding.

OK...so I can positively verify that removing fuse #56 (power inverter) on our 2017 Sport has silenced the high pitched noise!!
My wife says thank you to you guys for following through on this issue!
