So I'm riding down the road and the next thing I know I hear a BOOM! Much like a tire blow out, which I thought it was and would rather it be. I pull over to my dad's which was right down the road, only to get out and see a HUGE gash in my hood. My Flex-a-lite fan blade came off, I've got no clue why, and hit the top of my hood and made the hole. Don't know what it could have been because I know I haven't been under my hood in a month so I didn't leave any tools. I'm very pissed at the moment

That Bites......Put some knuckle dents in the hood..who cares..the hoods shot..relieve some of your frustration!!!!!!

I'm ordering a new fan first thing tomarrow, no prob. But I got no clue how much to expect to pay for a new hood. If it's a lot I might just go for a fiberglass one. Anyone have a price range for a used hood?

That sucks.. check scrap yards around you.

Time for you to get a hood like troll's :)

That really sucks Beau. :( I say get a fiberglass one. Probably cheaper than buying a brand new one from Ford. Plus, I haven't even seen a Explorer that is newer than 94, let alone one that looks like it's worth a crap. Also, you could try ebay if you don't go fiberglass.

You are looking fore a hood for a 2000 Ex?
They are not that expensive, even new aftermarket.

I am curious, what type of fan was it that let go? Flexalite or was it stock?
Did the flex a lite fan attach to the stock clutch or did you have a spacer/fan setup?

The stock nylon fans are known for doing this, coming apart.
Consider yourself lucky, it could have been FAR worse, that sucker could take out your radiator, A/C, engine dress, even people. A hood = you got off easy.
Still sucks though I know....

ouch, sorry man, I just replaced mine,
410 he said it was a flexalite that came off

right, I am trying to find out if he has a flex a lite fan attached to the stock clutch :)
The OEM fans are pricey

It had to of mutilated the shroud with it?

410, it was a 1300 series metal Flex-A-Lite fan. It attachs with an adapter that gets rid of the fan clutch. And as you can see in the 2nd pic (sorry for bad quality) it did eat the shroud up.

Well not that long ago I watched the video of the Cobra on the dyno blowing his upper intake to pieces. I thought that it happened to me.

time for ricer nostril looking ram-air ;)

I wish you were closer, I have a surplus going on 5.0L fan shrouds right now, inly 3 of them in the shop, I ended up using my original 2.9L shroud :)

the fan itself came apart? or did the spacer bolts come loose? Man thats a serious piece of flying metal right there, lucky your hood stopped it!

The fan came apart. That blade it completely torn away from the bolts where it was attached.

SUE Flex A Lite for a new hood and shroud :) hahahaha thats the american way......
Sucks man, that shouldnt happen, chalk it up to freak occurance.
Make sure the fan is rated for the 5.0L!!!
