Does anyone know if there is a TSB or a recall for the shocks that keep the hood open? Mine slams closed by itself after being open for like a minute or so. Very dangerous, almost came down on my head this past weekend! Has anyone replaced these shocks? Thanks in advance....

mine do that too.. except sometimes, the hood won't stay up at all. ok.. bring on the viagra jokes.

i just have a board (like 2" x 30") that i keep in the truck and use it to prop the hood up. you can buy new shocks for it at autozone or similar stores. i already looked. i'm just lazy and haven't gone by. don't know about a recall though.. and i found out when it hit me on the head. ouch!

Why don't you guys just change the hydraulic lifts? They're like $20 at Autozone. It's a cheap replacement.

Yea, that is what I am going to end up doing. Makes me wish for the old prop rod days. I am a little annoyed that they didn't use better supports for the lift gate as well, I may replace those at the same time. I am surprised that more people haven't been hit in the head with either.

yep, i had the same problem-$20 at Autozone will do it. Takes less than 10 mins to install both. Fairly easy, i was just lazy and never went out to go do it.

the cheap way to remedy the problem is a pair of vise grips.... when you open it, use the vise grips and clamp onto one of the shock shafts.... they will hold it open.....

i doubt there is a tsb, as shocks do die eventually.... especially as they are under the hood and subject to more extreme heat conditions than any of the other shocks....

16.99 each at Autozone, just picked them up at lunch, thanks guys:cool:

i bought some a autozone and they were crap. the ends are made of plastic and keep breaking when the hood was closed.

i got the part number from the book and the computer from the counter.

i might check and see what dealer is charging.

Got mine over the weekend at NAPA. I think they were $24.

The ones from autozone come with a Limited Lifetime warranty, if they break prematurely, I will try and get them replaced for free. I would bet if they are 16.99 at autozone, they are probaly like 60.00 at the dealer.

Replaced them yesterday, took all of 5 minutes. Remove metal ring on both sides of existing supports, pop off supports, put some new grease in the new sockets, then install. One thing is the supports go on the opposite way of the oem ones. (or upside down). Lift gate is next!

Part numbers?

Autozone part #E95537, they are not behind the desk, they are in an isle. I had to check 3 stores to find them, so call ahead.

thanks man

I just wanted to add to this thread because I'm replacing my hood shocks in the next few days. I went to an Auto Value parts store today and will have my new shocks in tomorrow morning for $12.95 a piece.

What's this about greasing? What type of grease am I suppose to use?

And another thing, I've also had the hood crash down on my head a few times. Good thing the hood is insulated so it didn't hurt bad, but I'm getting sick of having to prop the hood up with a rubber mallet.

Before I replaced mine I had the same problem. But if I would remember to open and close the hood a few times it would stay up. I could not remember so I replaced them.

I had the same problem. Got sick of the hood hitting me in the head and bought some cheapies at Autozone. About six months later the plastic ends broke and fell off the knob. So I bought the ones at the dealer and they have worked for over a year now. Really irratating getting crappy parts that break. I spent about 40 bucks a piece I think?

Not worth it really. I should have just used a board.
