mine is 22.5 us gallons

Bro its listed under my name! 2006 XLT 4x4

Should say in your owners manual

rofl, didnt even look under you avatar. yeah i didnt get an owners manual with mine. that is why i was asking, i was thinking it was a 15 gallon tank, but when i ran it dry with the hho kit installed and then refilled the tank, i put 19.75 gallons back in. lol hella different, never put more in then 14/15 gallons.

i used to own a 1991 EB and it had a 22 gallon tank also, so my assumption is that they are all 22 gallons.

Its risky but drive till your gas light comes on and take that number. and subtract 22. That will give you the gallons left when your gas light comes on.

Have you ever driven it until the gas light came on?

I don't think any first gens had a gas light..

The standard capacity for a Gen 1 Explorer is 19.3 gallons. I have the manuals for both a '92 and a '94 and both list the same capacity...irregardless if it's a Sport or a 4 Door.

Wow, its been almost 8 years since i drove my 1991 EB, i just figured that it had one.

My manual says 19.3 US gallons. My hunch is that all the Gen I's were the same.:us:

I could swear that i was able to put 22 gallons into my 1991 EB, are you sure all 1st gens had same tank?

99.9994% sure that they are the same. If you look for replacement parts, there is only one listed for all '91-94 Explorers. If you are dead empty, you can usually stuff up to a gallon more or so into the tank by filling the filler neck.

So does that mean that there is a 0.0006% chance your wrong :bsnicker:

Just kidding i believe you, like i said its been 8 year since i have driven my old ex, heck that was the last time i have been in a 1st Gen

From the many different answers given here, that confirms my thought that there is too much misinformation in manuals. Both my 91 and 93 Explorer(4dr.) had tanks the same basic capacity as my 98 and 99 truck, my three 91 LSC's, 85 and 86 Crown Vic, 72 Gran Torino, two 95 Crown Vics, and an 85 Mark VII. They all have taken near and over 21 gallons for me. Basically they are all 22 gallon tanks, Ford made them that size purposefully. Please don't nitpick the differences between written specs in various manuals. Rely more on the experience of yourself and others, than a book. Regards,

I've run mine dry once and it took a little more than 19 gallons to fill it back up.

Dumb as dirt, if I have pumped over 21 gallons into every vehicle that I listed, then they are all over 21 gallons. Stop praying to the owners manual, those are written by ignorant people.
