i have a 96 xlt V6 4.0L 4WD, but the original was replaced last year when it went. would the new one be the same? i know nothing about tranny part #s and types. i'm looking to get a shifter kit so i don't have another tranny problem. thanks

bump... I'd like to find this out too. I want to see if i have the right trans sittin in the garage !

You still have a 4R55E, but since it is new and/or rebuilt, it probably has updated parts from the 5R55E. The 2 trannies are basically the same, the 5R just has updated parts and a different computer program.

Whats the difference in the 4R55E and the A4LD ? Is this something they started with the 2nd gen explorers ?

4R55E is fully electronic controlled and has updated parts.

Just out of curiousity, when did yours go? I think mine was ~60-70k mi., and fortunately just in time to be covered by the expiring warranty. heh *phew*

About 65k.

they are the sucky model of trannys thats an easy question

mine went exactly at 90,001. like it was programmed to quit or something. only 2 mos. after i got it too, thankfully i picked up a warranty for it and had it covered.
