How do i replace a headgasket?

We totally understand what you are saying. We were all there at some time. Nobody is born with ability to build a car.

If you are serious about doing the job, go to amazon.com and buy the book(s). Once you get them, read up on the section that covers the Head Gasket job. Then read it again.

Do you have any friends that are into cars? Any of them do a headgasket job, OR ever built an engine? Ask if they can come help you, OR at least watch over your shoulder while you do all the work.

Good luck,
Ryan

If I ever have to do one, I will be sure to make a good thread about it.

A good resource for diagrams, instructs, tool references, etc is alldatadiy. Google it.

Speed! Whatup foo!

Ive done a hand full of head gasket jobs on older motors and several diesel engines and I'm a little intimidated by the Exploder heads.. good luck.. lots of wiring and sensors is what I'm intimidated by, changing out parts is no problem

The 1st Gen explorer with the Pushrod V6 is a very simple motor that really isn't that bad to work on. Even if you've never worked on a motor, with a chilton's manual followed step by step it's very straight forword. The biggest thing is spending the extra money on getting the heads checked and using new head bolts.

hey if you do end up replacing the head gasket can i get you to measure the compressed thickness of it or mail me it?

LOL, You've wanted this so bad for so long, you should just go to your local JY and go to town! I'm sure they've got a 4.0L laying around they wouldn't mind you wrenching on!!

.... just a random thought....

This thread is for the first gen., a 95 is a 2nd gen. but you should be able to just unbolt it from the head.
