Was doing some research on line was looking at Rangers GC and saw that '03-'05 have 10" but everything from '86-'02 and '06-present have about 7.5". What is the difference in the technique from one year to the next? I wanted to get an idea of what the Explorer had against it to only have 6.7"

Thats a good question. But i would imagine ground clearence is measured at the lowest part hanging down under the vehicle.

If thats the case I want the Ranger suspension from the '03-'05! Any ideas about this I know it is just a difference in how it was measured.

ground clearance is supposed to be measured by the absolute lowest point on the undercarriage.
my guess is on the 10" measurment they went from axle height, not control arm/diff height.

The stock tire size also affects ground clearance, maybe now they come with bigger tires.

one of the many but useful ways to measure ground clearance:

you could also measue from the ground to the lowest point of the frame, etc...
