Barney has new life

I bought my '96 XLT 4.0L with 79,000 kms on it two years ago. It will pass 97,000 kms this week. Its a baby, man. Picked it up for a song from the original owners wife . . he had died a year earlier, and it was his pride and joy.
She cried as I drove off . . .

Did the brakes last week and oil/filter each 5000 kms.

Tell me dave5992012 . . . did changing the plugs make that much of a difference? On the freeway, mine's ok, but a bit sluggish around town.

Well I have been getting 550 km to a tank...80 litre then we got some bad gas up here in northern BC... My km dropped down to 430 km... scary... I thought that the motor was hooped Barney sang his last song...lol I pulled the plugs and found that half of the were totally burnt, and the other half were clogged with crud. After changing them, putting in new fuel filter and air filter...BAM Barney has new life...

Thanks for that. Something to remember.
In fact - bugger it. The plugs are not that expensive. Time to change them.

I just rolled over 230,000 miles on my 2000 Explorer EB edition 4.0 SOHC. Original engine with a rebuilt trans about 5 years ago. She looks real good and is running strong!

303xxx on my 00 sport. Poor thing hasn't seen no love for some time... Hopefully Ill love her enough

Just bought my 1998 explorer, 53k miles.

I've owned my 98 xlt since day one and have the maintenance log to prove it. Was putting a lot of mile on it back when I was on active duty but once I retired and got a company car not so much. Right now she's just under 150K miles. Just really had to start putting any money into her in the last year. At this point I've put enough into her that I expect to get another 100K out of it.

222,000 on my 98 Explorer 5.0 AWD (bought it with 167,000 3 years ago). Overall it has been a great truck and just needed a few repairs since I've owned it. Replaced the main rear brake line not long after bought it, as well as installing a new radiator and water pump around the same time. The water pump hadn't yet failed, but it was one of those "might as well" things while I had stuff apart for the radiator. Original alternator finally failed yesterday, installed a new one today and it's back on the road :) Had the original passenger side front wheel bearing fail at 211K. Starting to get sort of rusty from the MI winters with road salt, but it's still trusty :D

99 xlt

My XLT has 298,000 miles. First major surgery was this weekend with a heater core replacement, what a PITA job! Next is a major front end job in a month or so.

1999 XLT has 440551 kms On it and my 2007 166000 kms

Clicked over 200,000 this morning. Had it since new.

40 oil changes, 2 tranny fluid changes, 3 sets of new tires, 2 sets of front brake pads, 1 set of rears, 1 pair of front rotors and bearings, 1 radiator, 1 multifunction switch, 1 rear axle brake line, 2 IAC valves, 2 throttle position sensors, 1 set of ball joints and sway bar links, 1 set of spark plugs, 2 batteries.

Just hit 218,000 today on my 1996 5.0 - original engine and tranny. :-)

268K on my '97 Mounty and 256K on my '00 Explorer.

My '94 had 337k when I got traded it in. I thought for sure it heading straight to the junkyard collecting $200 for scrap, but I saw it driving down the road 5 years later.

high mileage

my 1995 xlt just turned 200,000 miles the other day:)

How many on your explorers?

...just wonderin how much longer push mine

I know exactly what you're talking about. I needed a vehicle printo so I bought a '95 exployer that has 222,000 miles on it. Ran great for the first week and now it's running real crappy and I'm wondering if its going to last long enough for me to be able to get something else.

144K on my 2001 XLT 4x4. Bought it a year and a half ago from original owner at 136K for $1400. Previously had a 1994 XLT 4x4 that I sold in 2005 with 225,000 on it and is still probably out there on the road. They're tanks.
