I don't think snot is gonna make it

G

I haven't been on in quite a while, and maybe I should have posted this in the "whoops" area, but I do have a question too.

Here's what happened. I was driving along, having a great day, when the car in front of me decided to lock up their brakes so they could make a right hand turn across 3 lanes of traffic. To avoid hitting this person, I opted for the median and ended up riding the guardrail like a pipe ramp at about 85 KMH. After riding the guardrail for a bit, snot "jumped" off of it.

Now although she looks ok, and I don't see any visible damage, she is running like crap, shifting like crap, and is now dog legging when driving above 40 KMH. Once I hit 50KMH (30MPH), there is such vibration, it feels like she's going to shake apart. 4 wheel drive still works, but she's not happy about it at all.

Again there is no visible damage that I can see. I would hate to "put her down". Snot has been my favorite RBV thus far...if anyone has any insight to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it...I hope I didn't bend her frame.

And I didn't hit the tree at all, even the mirror survived.

EDIT: Also there are no KOEO or KOER codes.

i bet the driveshaft is damaged , that would account for the shake, ,

First of all, that's awesome and unbelievable that you didn't hit that tree, that would have been a bad day for you AND the truck. Glad to hear your okay, and the truck may make it!

First thing I'd check is the transmission mounts and driveshaft, as stated above, my guess is you may have slid across the frame rails and/or transmission/transfer case, you make have broke the mounts letting it wobble around, or vibrate like your experiencing. But I'd get that truck up in the air ASAP and give it a thorough visual look over before taking it back out on the road.

One of the many, many reasons I love this forum. People are always quick with a response to help.

I have had her up in the air and have checked the driveshaft. No a single mark on it. U-joints are tight too. I have pushed and pulled on everything under there and I can't seem to find anything loose. The trans crossmember has some marks on it but it doesn't look bent...I am at such a loss for ideas. I will check under there again. Thanks guys.

shot in the dark, but, hey did you rotate the wheels to see if you have a bent rim ?

While you are looking, check the vacuum line into your transmission's vacuum modulator. Check your other vacuum lines too even..... A lot of first gens can have a pretty serious vacuum leak without ever throwing a code in my experience.

I can't believe you didn't hit that tree!

swapped the rims ?
like moved them around ?
i would have spun them on the axles to check,,

Put it up in the air and spin each wheel by hand to see if you have a bent axle or spindle..

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I took the 31's off and put my stock rims on with the 235's. The stock rims and tires are 100% good. Spun them while putting them on, and no wobble. Bent axle isn't looking likely either.

maybe an engine misfire?

does it shake the engine at idle, ?

The shaking is all from the rear...at least that's what it feels like. The engine just runs like **** now, and it's not shifting properly...I don't know if these are all related or what. Thanks for any and all input guys.

EDIT:
I should mention. Since the unpleasantness, the engine runs rough. To start it, I have to put the peddle to the floor. Once it's running, it doesn't smell like it's burning rich. It doesn't have any pwer though. It's a workout for it to just get up to speed. It doesn't shift right either. The engine has to really rev for it to. The trans pan isn't punched in and nothing looks bent...damn gremlins.

i wonder if the run up on the rail might have made the fuel pump suck up all the crap in the bottom of the tank?
causing a plugged fuel filter, making the engine run bad, ,

Damn dude, that was close! Hope you get you issues sorted. I'd start checking fuel pressure/flow, change the filter... Corkey may be onto something.

So did you or did you not hit the guardrail?

Oh man that just sucks.
Sounds like you have two different issues. Dog tracking with rear end noise and engine problems. How did the rear end look? Did it get hit? Sounds like something got bent or broken. If you look down the length of the truck from tire center height, do the rear tires look straight?

Just a idea. I cant believe you didnt hit that tree.

That's exactly where it was. There must have been free private shows at Teasers. lol

I did NOT hit the guardrail. I rode it. Right down the middle of the truck.

There doesn't seem to be anything obvious. It looks straight. I only see scraped metal on the front diff, trans cross member and frame rails.

On a side note. "Friendly Manitoba" my ass. The car that I almost hit was completely oblivious, and not a single car behind me even stopped for a second! I would have loved to have seen the view from the car behind me though...
