Today on my way to school I was making a left hand turn from the turn lane, a cop is next to me going straight. The light turns green so the traffic proceeds except he crawls along right next to me but slightly ahead of me and then cuts me off in the intersection so I stop dead in the intersection and wait for him to move, but he doesnt. So I continue to make my left hand turn and he then follows me and turns on his flashers and pulls me over. Like a typical cop (A DICK!!!) he immediatly gets ****y with me when I asked what I did, he starts circling around my car and then comes to my windows and goes your turn signals are xenon blue, you have clear tail lights, blah blah blah and so on. I said Im sorry officer I didnt know, I have the correct parts in my trunk I'll change them right now for you if you'd like (I said it in a polite manner). Then he starts going on about how he should ticket me $65 for each incorrect bulb I have in and then $520 for the clear tail lights. Well anyway I had two shot glasses sitting in the holder area between the seats in plain site because I was bringing them back to my friend at school because he left them at my house, the officer sees them and says sir please step out of the vehicle. I mean Im not a sketchy individual (I was dressed in a suit, clean shaven with glasses) and my breath obviously did not reak of alcohol because I hadnt drank anything. He then continues to pat me down and begins to search my car, I said "on what grounds do you have to search my card". I didnt have anything in my car that shouldnt of been there I just didnt feel like I needed to have my car searched in rush hour traffic when I was on my way to taking my midterm. He said that the shot glasses in the front seat were probable cause. MY ASS THATS PROBABLE CAUSE. Anyway he ended up writing me a work order and said that I had to have the car maryland inspected once I had corrected everything. WHAT A JERK, I was quite willing and polite to change the lights, I would understand him being so ****y if I had an attitude with him. Anyway this just further adds to my resentment of cops, I know that not all of them are like this because I have a friend who is a cop but a good 80% of them are, I think they're just upset because they just short changed with the family jewels or else they are trying to get their revenge for being picked on in high school.

yah, i know exactly what you mean. that sucks, and what sucks even worse, is that theres nothing you can do about it. its to the point where cops are like hired mercenaries, and its quite disgusting.

well, cant wait for this thread to be deleted :fire:

That sucks. I hate it when they treat you like sh*t even if you are being polite and cooperative.

Hey tbomb how long do you figure it will be before this thread is deleted? My guess is that it will be gone tonight

i think it'll be deleted in the morning. since you already picked tonight. what do i win if my guess is right?;) :p

maybe this one can stay becuase he was to the point in saying this cop was an @sshole just like some of us say a mechanic is an a-hole around here sometimes, not meaning we hate them all.

My question is what is the law in your state for having clears on your lights???
If it is against the law then he had a right to stop you. I know in our town the big thing is if you don't have a light on your plate they will stop you. They can stop you for that, then start looking for other things after that.
I have to agree I don't like how they do things or how they can stop you for one thing then check everything else since they have you pulled over.
You have to understand how many crazy people there are out there they stop so they have to take them all serious. I would just say be glad you didn't get the fine and be happy.

Most of them are jerks .... but there are a few good ones out there. The first year i owned my motorcycle i was not liecenced for it. I was able to purchase it and insure it with no valid motorcycle liecence so i figured that it was no big deal.

Well anyway i was traveling 65 in a 25 and the cop pulled me over and after a verbal warning let me drive home and park it without towing it.

The following week i was on my way home from a ride with a few friends and wouldnt you know it .... the same cop was sitting in a parking lot looking at traffic. Once again i was speeding and this time i pulled over to the side of the road and waited for him before he even got a chance to leave the parking lot. This time he also let me go and told me three strikes and im out.

A month later on the day i got my liecence he pulled me over and i had a passanger. Your not supposed to have a passanger for the first year you have your liecence. He also let me go on that one too.

Three times i could have been heavily fined and had my motorcyle impounded and he let me go. There are good ones out there.

Why do posts about cops get deleted here? There are plenty of @sshole cops, just like @sshole people. God knows, of the many bad cops we have here in NYC, I've run ito my fair share. "To protect and serve"? Yeah right....I will say they arent ALL bad, just most of the ones that I've run into, "power trippin'"...

because most of the moderators on this site are intense right wingers that dont appreciate others' opinions that arent congruent with their own.

ok89, im with leenjen, probably tomorrow morning, because you already predicted tonight :p if tonight wasnt your prediction, it would be gone tonight, but now, i wouldnt be surprised if they let it stay all weekend because of all the controversy it started. im starting to think that maybe they wont delete it though. it went long enough to get a decent amount of responses, so now a moderator might just close it with a lecture at the end, then some other moderators will add their opinions about how the first moderator was right, and there'll be plenty of brown nosing and such. (dont think im trying to cut down any modertors here, but ive seen it time and time again, where a modertor will close a thread because they dont agree with the "direction" its going in, and even when its closed, other moderators will still offer their opinion, while other members like me cant reply. apparently my opinion (and some other members') isnt wanted on topics that require more thought than "how often should i change my synthetic oil.) but i digress...have a nice day all :)

Hey tbomb I am a moderator and I replied.
I have one thing to ask you, do you have kids? I have a 11 year old almost 12 and he watches this board a lot. Do you think it is good to say bad things about people that we try and make kids respect.
I have to agree there are some cops that are on ego trip and there are some that are a$$holes, but I try to show my son the good ones so he will repect the police.
I know Rick has worked hard on keeping this a family based web site which I think is great.
I myself don't like cops that much because it seems the only time they are around is to give me a ticket, but then who was the one speeding? ME
They are just like the rest of us and doing there job.
I would say it's not cops that are the jerks, but the person doing the job of a cop.
Just my .02 cents.

perry, the fact that youre a moderator and you replied to this thread makes you the exception to the rule.

the way i was brought up was to respect all adults, even the ones that are @ssholes, and even cops, but i was also brought up to think for myself. no i dont have kids yet (im still young, 22), but i can assure you of one thing, my kids will not be raised to believe many of the fallacies of society. they will be raised to be individuals and to think for themselves and make up their own minds. simply, listening to someone and taking it as fact is unacceptable (in most cases.) it if were acceptable, things would be a lot different. respecting the cops is not necessarily the goal; knowing the rules and how to live/play by them, is. ill tell you right now, when i get pulled over, im the nicest guy in the world to the cop, but in the back of my head, he doesnt really wanna know what im thinking; but im not stupid.

as far as, me personally respecting cops, theres really not much there. even the ones who are "nice", are still part of the problem, in that, the laws theyre supossed to so deeply believe in and uphold each and every day, are a joke. not to mention, that even the "nice" ones arent always nice. ill admit that having the job of a cop isnt easy - to do their job correctly, they must be totally objective, black and white, ALL THE TIME, and its really a shame that it doesnt work like that in reality.

the way rick runs this site is great, as far as im concerned. ive actually had some "real time" conversations with him in the chat room, and hes a really nice guy; i like him...but the way some of the moderators do business in his house is something to be desired. i appreciate how youve kept this conversation amicable, because i can think of numerous moderators that would have closed this thread by now, and sent me a PM saying 'if you dont like it around here, you can leave', which i must say, is a very mature way of doing business *sarcasm.*

oh, i just noticed that i didnt exactly answer this question:

Do you think it is good to say bad things about people that we try and make kids respect.

well, i think its important to teach them the rules (as well as who makes the rules, and why, but give them the truth, not the half-assed falsehoods that elementary and secondary education show them.) then teach them the exceptions. show them the good, then show them the bad. when theyre old enough, they can make up their own minds (which is more than i can say for most of the people ive encountered in my 22 years.) the best thing we can do for our children is to teach them how to be themselves; to be individuals; to think for themselves. the last thing i want to do is tell you how to raise your son, perry. this is just my $0.02.

First of all, WOW your just a punk kid. LOL

I used to be the same way, but older I get I'm not as nice as I used to be. I guess I figure if they raise there voice at me I can do the same back.
I was stopped a few months ago for running a red light. The state patrol said he couldn't give me a ticket since there was another car that ran it at the same time. It just happened I was the last car to go thru...
Anyway when he came up and told me why he stopped me he asked me when the light turned yellow what I should have done??
My answer was step on the gas!!!!????
He had to try pretty hard not to laugh or smile back at me. I don't think he was expecting that from me. We had a nice little chat and he let me go, but I thought it was funny. My co-worker that rides with me couldn't believe I said that.....

I'm glad you won't tell me how to raise my son, because I wouldn't listen to you anyway.....
:p

You are right, I believe people don't think for themselves anymore. One of the things that really bothers me is those stupid school crossings. I see so many kids just walk up to it hit the button and when the light changes they just start walking without looking either way. Why don't they just teach kids to look both ways and be responsible for themselves.
Seems like someone does something stupid and they make a law for there stupidity. They need a stupid law if you ask me. If your so stupid you deserve what happens to you.
Another example: Hate crimes against gays. Isn't there laws already on the books if you kill someone you go to jail whether your guy, black, white, green, or blue? Why do they have to make a new law, just inforce the ones we have.
How many people go out and kill there friends? Aren't most murders hate crimes??? Just doesn't make since.
Sorry got off the subject.

As I thought about writing a long drawn out opinionated view on this,I stopped in my tracks, and will just say this....WELL SAID TBOMB!!.....(and I DO have a child)

D

funny you should mention this. i go to penn state and last semester, the week before finals, a 22 or 23 year old girl crossed the street without looking either way, walked right into a bus - dead on the site. its pretty sad, she was one semester away from graduating. people really dont even think anymore. there were a lot of witnesses there, and they all said she didnt even look, she just straight walked right into traffic. its a shame that she died, but, c'mon; the intersection she was hit at is one of the busiest intersections in all of state college (thats the town where psu is located, and for any alumni out there, its the corner of beaver and garner.) looking both ways before crossing the street - one of the first things you learn in life; i remember seeing that on sesame street when i was little!

with respect to some other stuff you mentioned...

First of all, WOW your just a punk kid. LOL

funny ;)

glad to hear it :D

and this seems like just wasteful legislature (but, as far as im concerned, its all wasteful ;) ) maybe if they had people enforcing those laws, me and you would get less tickets for things that could only "potentially" cause trouble, while things like rape and murder, which ARE causing trouble, are being acted out.

by this point on this thread, i think im to $0.04, so theres mine ;) :D

it seems to me, the laws need to be changed. I know that ANYTHING flashing on the front of a car is either a strobe or a turn signal, it doesn't matter what color it is, as long as you know its the front of the car. I have superwhite turn signals too.. and I use them right in front of cops, always have, I think its ridiculously rude not to use turn signals :P anyway.. if you had some sort of red reflector on those tails, its technically legal, although not DOT approved. I have the clear lenses as well, but I think sometimes my bumper reflectors save me from cops.. and I have gotten a few looks, I pretend they're not there lol

Wow I was just telling a lil story that happened to me, I didnt think it would get this kind of response. And the fact is Im young also and dont have kids so I dont have your point of view on this topic. But you cant shield your kids from everything and if you do its only gonna hurt them more, but thats not the topic of this post Im not here to tell you how to raise your children. I asked the cop why they front turn signals had to be amber and his reply was "Because geysers like me think its just your headlight when your coming at us and get confused". What kind of dumbass gets confused, your headlight isnt gonna start blinking like crazy for the h*** of it, use some commmon sense......

My only experience with a cop is when i was pulled over for doing 80 in a 45 zone, he let me off for 55, i thought that was pretty nice.

About that girl getting hit by a bus, probably she didn't want to look or else she would have to make eye contact. One of my friends just walks across the street without looking because he doesn't want to make eye contact so i have to swear at him because he'll get himself killed.

So you didn't answer my question, is it legal or illegal to have them????
If there is no law saying you can't do it, then I don't see why they can stop you even if they don't like it. They still have to go by the laws. His reason was pretty lame if you ask me.

Another example of a dumb Sherriff:
I own a 87 Aerostar that we put four wheel drive under and I had a Deputy Sherriff stop me because he thought I was going to slide into him when I was making a right turn. My back tire locked up and it slid so that got his attention.
Anyway he pulled me over and said he could impound the truck for being illegal, but I told him it was a legal vehicle, then he went on telling me how I could have slid into him and my bumper is at his window level and it would have hurt him bad and so on and so on.
I just said if you are going to give me a ticket to do it. He was a jerk about the whole thing and he ended up giving me a verbal warning.
When I left I just thought what a waiste of my time and his time for him stopping me just because I scared him. I knew there wasn't anything he could give me a ticket for except maybe public showing off or whatever they call it for sliding my tire or maybe defaulty vehicle.
He was just trying to show his power I think and it didn't work for me.
(you can see pics of the van on our web page)
O.K. now I'm up to about .05 cents.
