After 16 years my Explorer finally flunked an emissions test. It blew just fine... Everything well within limits, but the damn gas cap failed!

I drove around the corner to Checker and popped on a new cap. Then I headed back to the emissions joint, sat in line for another hour... and voila. It passed.

Now that the Explorer reached a certain age it has to go in every single year for testing. They don't care that the vehicle only drives maybe 100 miles on public roads every year...

maybe you should move to Prescott where we don't have emissions. :D

Don't they have a mileage exemption in AZ? We have one up here.

Rick,

Have you looked into a form 52 yet? I think you live far enough out that you can get it. You just can't use it to drive to town for work or school. I'm assuming you don't drive it for that. :)

Here is some more info. . http://www.azdeq.gov/environ/air/vei/exempt.html

We use the form 52 on the Van and the Explorer and keep the mustang and honda as the vehicles that are taken to town (and need emisions).

edit: I just looked at the map for the Phx metro area.. It goes out pretty far, so you may actually be in the emision area :(

Rick, did they charge you for the retest?

Yet...

If I moved there the law would change;)

That's what happened here where I am now. Up until the year I moved here, this town was not included in Maricopa County emissions testing. It really doesn't make sense for someone to drive 50 miles to get their emissions tested. It just adds more pollution and burns more gas:dunno:

Rick, did they charge you for the retest?

Thankfully no. I was surprised. For $27.75 they darn well should give you "free" re-dos...;)

I WISH I could pay that little for smog!

I just paid $50 plus the gas cap in so-cal! But I didn't have to drive 50 miles to get there, so I guess thats about even!:D

We have emissions needed every year no matter what age the vehicle is. My 2006 stratus gets tested yearly.. :(

That is cheap compared to where I live. You never just drive in for an inspection. They always make up something to fail you, then charge for another test (but the second time they give you a discount).

Don't ya love it? They figured a way to impose another tax upon us. Not only are we taxed for money, we are taxed for our time.:thumbdwn:

Ha, I used to get an inspection for $17. Now it jumped upwards of $50 due to the "gas cap emissions."

Yet, 1 county over from ours doesn't need emissions....

The zuk is a 'test-only' vehicle - a vehicle that has been targeted for elimination by the smog people.

Test-only is easy $50, and most will charge for retests on fails..

I am really glad that I do not have to test my explorer in any fashion.

We don't have emissions testing here either. I'm sure they will figure out a way soon because within the past year they started charging $13.99 on everyone's water bill for trash pickup in town. So around $110 a month for lights and $94 a month for water, $40 for water, $40 for sewer, and $14 for them to haul my trash off. :(

Even have to pay it if I haul my own trash off or pay a company to haul it off. Sucks having to pay for a service even if you were not using it. Talk about a crime

woohoo no emission testing here! Infact there are very little car related laws in wisconsin , you would be surprised at what is rolling around.

No emissions or any other type of testing here in Oklahoma either. Its not really needed, mostly because depending on which direction the wind is blowing it either all gets blown to Texas or Arkansas.
