I hate emissions - Pumpkin failed on first try

We don't have them in Augusta but two hours away in Atlanta you do... but up in Atlanta I see more "If you fail you don't pay" type of stations. I see a bunch of cars though on the road that probably wouldn't pass california standards but somehow are on the road here in georgia...

If I ever move somewhere that has emissions I'll just register the vehicles at my Mom's house :0)

Don't ya love it? They figured a way to impose another tax upon us. Not only are we taxed for money, we are taxed for our time.:thumbdwn:

Weren't you in support of politicians in the last election that PROMISED tax increases? :D

Some days I miss our old board where we could argue this stuff out for weeks on end. ;)

I'm not against taxes which fund the "right things".

Our emissions testing BS puts more money into the hands of the private business which runs the facilities than it puts into our state coffers. Our Republican state legislator who was the greatest proponent of the emissions program quit his job in the Arizona legislature so he could work for the emissions testing company.

hmm...I dont think they have emisions tests in NJ. Unless thats included with the vehicle inspection which is free (thats a suprise!), which is good for 4 years on a new car then has to be updated every 2 years after that.

Hmmm...No emissions testing in western Colorado, only the front range(Denver,co.springs,etc.)Nevada has emissions testing in Las Vegas, and maybe Reno. Guess I'll find that out shortly.

What is this "Emission Testing" of which you speak? Is this a mythical endeavor that tests how well your vehicle is polluting? We doth not have such wretched villainy in our beloved state! Hold not the smog tester in thy hand, but rejoice with the foot on thou's accelerator!

Yay for Oklahoma!

Texas is pretty strict about it. My inspection is up and I'm digging into my paycheck for the $40 to do it. I sure hope I don't fail. Last year I did and it was because, guess what, the faulty OEM gas cap. Also my third brake light was out. Since I couldn't get the ring off the old gas cap I just clipped it off. Now I have to remember where I leave my gas cap after I finish filling up. :D

Lol I live in Oregon and have a 91 explorer and no cats it blows clean passes every time.
I made a bolt up strait pipe in place of the cats. The dumb lady with the mirror didnt see it. It passed the sniff test and i was on my way.

We don't have emissions testing here either. I'm sure they will figure out a way soon because within the past year they started charging $13.99 on everyone's water bill for trash pickup in town. So around $110 a month for lights and $94 a month for water, $40 for water, $40 for sewer, and $14 for them to haul my trash off. :(

Even have to pay it if I haul my own trash off or pay a company to haul it off. Sucks having to pay for a service even if you were not using it. Talk about a crime
You need to quit whining, my water bill alone is more than all of your utilities combined.
And, my RV cost $660.00 for registration this year, which is more than when I bought it new. I think I drove that thing about 800 miles total last year.
Lucky me, I did not have to smog anything this year.

unfortunatley they dont want to stop here! they want to tax us per mile and per cylinder, who are we kidding they want to crush our explorer's and get us off the road... they likely wont be happy until our wallets are dry and nothing burns fuel

The explorer gas cap is a tricky size, there are two vacuum caps at the emissions place that fit it, if they use the wrong one it will fail
I failed with a brand new gas cap
retested and the truck passed, no changes were made, except the manager of the emissions place did the test himself after I "discussed" my gas cap situation with him
this was not he first time his employee used the wrong adapter aparently

My BII is now 22 years old I waited till the 20 year mark to get my classic plates, right before then they changed it to 25 years... now they want to make it 1984 and newer only, so my 88 will never be a classic? WTF???

Well at least the experience resulted in a nice new aftermarket part.

They might still require emissions testing as part of the yearly inspection, even on vehicles that are registered as antiques or have special insurance for limited use and mileage.

I wouldn't mind emissions so much, depending on the testing procedure. Back in Colorado I saw one emissions facility where they had the owners hand over the vehicle to the employees, where they proceeded to test it by basically flooring it and trying to cause a problem. I'd NEVER let anyone drive my truck, let alone get in it and redline the motor for a few minutes, even if it was to analyze the particles at WOT.

Do you get to stay in your vehicle while they do the testing in Arizona, or it's the same thing, hand it over and you can only watch while they do whatever?

I've heard some independent shops have the ability to do slightly more friendly emissions testing, depending on the state.

I guess that depends on how friendly your tester is.....When I had my Porsche Carrera 4, I had some modifications to the engine;
Aftermarket intake, and a high-performance race chip (which added about 50 horse power and 1500 rpm to a 273 horse power engine).
I went to a smog place (Pass or don't pay) and totally forgot to remove the chip first. The place was full of Asians. They did not want to drive my car so I parked it in the back for them. I stood around as they opened the deck and started to explain that the intake was legal. I was told something like; "Oh, don't worry, you pass......you go up front now." I did as I was told, but peeked around the corner at them. I saw the old guy wave the younger guy off, then he pulled the exhaust senser nearly all the way out before he tested. Passed fine.

I was one of the people helping to fight against vehicle emmissions testing in Louisville metro. My argument -- the one that won the battle -- was that there were more pollutants generated by the mandated yearly testing with its mandated 30 minute warm up time than were saved by rejecting the 2% of vehicles that didn't pass the test. Yes, in our area only 2% of all cars failed, which means that the test was just a thinly veiled attempt to collect an additional tax from all the people in the county. We no longer have VET.

Of course, there is a constant pressure to bring it back "because of global warming." What a crock... Mandate newer model weed eaters and lawn mowers if that is your concern -- they make more pollution than any modern OBDII vehicle -- oh, and check out the public utilities as well... You know, the ones who have a monopoly on our paychecks, yet still advertise as if they have competition... :thumbdwn:

You mind if we all register our vehicles using your address???:D:rolleyes::p:

global warming = taxes = going to cool the earth?
how does taxing the people stop global warming? thats what I would like to know
I guess the dinosaurs didnt pay their taxes and BLAMO big asteroid...

Even if Global warming was true (its not) the blind and leading the blind here!!! Climate change is the new term anyways......next it will be fear of oxygen shortage, mark my words! anything to try and get more power and control over YOU

thanks GLFREDRICK for fighting the good fight, what a CROCK!!!!!!!!

I remember when I got stationed at Pendleton, in SoCal. Had to pass Cali emissions to get a base permit. I just did what everyone else does, drive out the gate to Oceanslime and tell them its for a base permit only. They looked at my tags (registered in Indiana) and said ok, you pass. Charged me 110 and THEN did the "test". I know there is no way I would have passed, the truck was throwing all kinds of emissions codes at that time, lol.

I was reading (yes, I do that time to time), Glen Beck of all people (he should be the next president).
If all of the world was forced to drive hybrids, it would not reduce the amount of hydrocarbons in the atmosphere any noticable amount.
