Born and raised in Oklahoma ~ My heart lives in the Rockies!
Year, Model & Trim Level
1993 XLT
Just replaced the following:
  • Fuel pressure regulator
  • Rear wiper motor
  • Serpentine belt
  • Upper radiator hose
  • Lower radiator hose
  • Evaporator core
  • Accumulator
  • Orifice tube
  • Low pressure cut off switch
  • Low side R134A adapter
  • A/C leak fixed

When I took it in I was having a hard time starting it. It would just turn over and then it would start just fine the second time I tried to start it.

~As of Today~
It is still having this problem and our mechanic said the fuel pump was not gaining pressure like it should. He told me to turn the key and let it sit there for a minute before actually starting it. I am doing this and it seems to help the issue.

I filled the tank with Premium gas at no ethanol station. I also poured in some STP fuel injector cleaner... a mile later my check engine light came on! Somebody please tell me I didn't do something to make that light come on. and yes my gas cap is screwed on correctly.

Also, when leaving the gas station the needle on my battery power indicator started jumping around and the car acted funny but was fine after I turned onto the street.

The Check engine light is only the beginning. You need the actual fault code to begin diagnosis.
Once you get the truck scanned for trouble codes, write them all down and come back here with the info. Do not let the guy scanning your truck sell you any parts yet.

The problem may be as simple as an electrical plug being bumped loose from the under hood work.

There are ways to read the codes yourself--but a scan tool is the easiest.

and here is a trouble code chart

BTW
that is one very clean 93 you have. I want it.

Awesome, I saw a simular thread so I will stop by auto zone to have it scanned after I pick the kids up from school.

BTW, thanks my hubby is very attached to it and my mechanic is a family friend but he actually told me today, "It's a 93 and its not like your gonna have that car forever..." While he was telling me it would cost $400-$500 to replace the fuel pump because the engine had to be dropped. Also, the tire tech at Hibdons laughed and asked me, "Where do you plan on taking that thing?" when I told him I wanted Dueler A/T's and new 17" rims.

I have expreienced some serious Explorer dissing going on here so your compliment is much appreciated!

The fuel pump can be replaced without dropping the tank, from what I understand.

Show your mechanic friend this thread.

I got those Dueler A/T's three years ago and they are still going strong and while I do take care in how I drive, I burn more gas taking our four kids everywhere they need to go and I have never had a set of tires last this long! No flats, no patches, but I think my Dueler's helped me keep from rolling in an almost accident on the interstate last year!!! I will stick with these tires!

I had a set of the duelers on a ranger and yes they lasted and wore like iron but I will not run them my self as the rubber was to hard for me in the winter on the ice and so they slipped like mad even with an extra 750 Lbs. of sand over the rear wheels in that truck. but last that they do just did not work in the winter for me on a pick up but glad they work for you and your happy with them because there long wearing!

By the way as was said talk about one clean rig wish my 93 still look that good and I only had 2 kids LOL. What every your doing its working and do not let any one tell you deferent! It may be a 93 but its clean runs and works so what dose a newer one do that’s better then that after all and about the tires and 17" rims so what if you want them it’s your truck how many lift rigs and run mud tires but never even see a gravel

I actually think I may have some sort of weird attachment to my tires, ya know how when you get a new car suddenly you see that car everywhere...yeah, I do that about my tires... We had a very rough winter here in OK the winter I got these tires and having also lived in the Rockies I know better than to get to comfy in trusting tires on ice but I actually had to force the car to slip on the ice just to prove to my kids I needed them quiet so I could drive on it without getting in an accident!

Thanks, that pic was from 3 years ago and since then the black trim down the side has somehow curled up detaching from the car and after stabbing myself in the leg with it I ripped it off and after soft ball size hail last spring she has her fair share of dents and the clear coat is pealing off...I find it very odd my Explorer took that hail beating like a pro and while our home left us with giant hail, glass, and our very own set of five water falls...we'd have been safer in the car!

...wish I could say the same for my then 2mo. old impact resistant shingles and five skylights, which all had to be replaced!!! We had 11,000 damage to our shingles, decking, skylights, fence, screens, gutters, shed, back yard fort, and one window of our house!

My Explorer got a several good dents in the hood and roof and a perfect circle crack in the windshield right behind the rear view mirror...that's made a nice conversation piece since It seriously looks like someone used a glass cutter and tried to cut my mirror out of the windshield! LOL
