I hope someone can help me here. I haven't a clue where to sart looking for parts. I want to drop my 97 select trac awd 2 or 3 inches. I want to make a road race explorer. I lowered the torsion bars until the a arm was on the bumpstop. That ride was crap. I want to race on an SCCA course and not roll. I also need bigger sway bars. And what is the 20+ hp gain resistor all about? I built my own ram air that feeds from the fog light on the pass side. I have airbags on the back to adjust the ride. I really want to race this thing.Any help from real enthusiasts will be greatly appreciated.

get a intake kit, exhaust, spark plugs and wires, and maybe a chip(bama chips), and that should do you for the power. I have a K&N intake, magnaflow exhaust(custom), taylor spark plug wires and denso spark plugs, all the mods were about $530'ish. I don't have a chip but thinking about it, about $250-$350 for just a chip. look at jcwhitney for sway bars, i offroad and they are not for offroading so i don't know much about them. think about the shocks too and maybe some bushings all around. I am not a road racer, but these are some good starting points.

thanks

I have a K&N filter in my ram air setup. The 20+ resistor is what i kinda need to know about and maybe where to get drop 4x4 spindles if possible

I want to run flowmaster 2 chamber and 3 in out from headers and high flow cats

did you try to shave the bumpstops? I noticed the same thing when I installed my x-spec suspension from EE, so I installed some conical ones from summit, they can be cut down to fit
The x-spec suspension kit has the larger swaybar and rear lowering blocks
as for drop spindles, I believe we dream on

BTW, SelecTrac is not AWD, and if it's a Sport, it's not AWD. Only the V8s came with AWD, and all V8s are 4-door
oh, and don't even think about those dumbass "+20 HP resistors" that's all they are, 10 cent resistors from Radio Shack. And they basically make the truck run rich. They are bad :thumbdwn:

I think he's getting AWD and 4WD mixed up.

For the original poster, AWD implies full time AWD, i.e. you can't switch between a 2WD mode (or something like it), and 4Lo and 4Hi. As gavin mentioned, the only AWD models of Explorer/Mountaineer are 4 door models (XLT/Eddie Bauer and Limited), and only when the 5.0 V8 is the engine.

Scroll/search around the site. There are lots of ways to make your Ex go fast and handle better. Don't ever buy one of those eBay chips. Go to sctflash.com to find out how to tune your Ex properly. A lot more expensive than those resistors, but well worth it.
