I want to lift my rig about 4 to 6 inches and put 35's on. I really just want it to look nice as well as be able to perform well off-road. My 1991 explorer is pretty much all stock to the bones. I have heard very little about body lifts. What are they and what are the main differences from a body lift and a frame lift? Can I lift it for under 1500 bucks? The internet has been quite unhelpful for finding companies that lift explorers; kinda seems that they are left out of the loop.

Any info provided would be appreciated,

Best info I can give you - use the search button on this site. A body lift uses "blocks" to lift the body. A Frame lift (or suspension lift as most call it) Uses components to lift the suspension of the vehicle. Which is much more useful for wheeling. Warning- if you are going to put on 35's you will be unhappy until you redo the gears.

superlift makes a 5.5 lift but have issues with their brackets.

you can find it here for less than 1500.

tuff country 4" is a good setup. you can trim the fenders for 35's

570 kit alone, 765 with pitman arm and shocks.

you could do a solid axle swap. its not a bolt in but it'd give the 6-8" of lift to fit 35's or 37's. check out the forums.

I needed 7" of lift(4" suspension and 3" body lift)to clear 35's(slight fender trimming on front fenders). I also have 4:88 gears to help with the bigger tires.......

Thats the same setup I'm running 4in susp and 3in body with 35s and I had to trim as well.
The 4in tuff country kit looks like it uses add-a-leafs to lift the rear which wont put you near 4in of lift to match the front. The rough country kit cost $680 and comes with shocks, a drop pitman arm, and replacement rear leaf springs(I'm currently running this kit) but the big problem with this kit is the passenger beam drop bracket will bust a hole in your diff if you dont install the bumpstop drop bracket(trust me I know from experience).
