Ok whenever I drive around 50 miles in 1 trip after I turn off the car, then start it like 10 min later the idle is very wild. The needle will go up to about 1000 then to like 300 and sometimes if I dont give it gas it will stall. It does this for about a min then it is fine. Why would this happen, and do I need to replace my IAC?
Thanks

Does sound like a bad IAC, I would just clean it first.

After cleaning mine it got worse and the idle would not go over 500. From what others have said it is just a temporary measure.

You can get them from rockauto.com for like $55 or so. Get the Motorcraft one (there were 2 listed for my 2000). Installation is 2 minutes.

There is a good thread on cleaning your IAC that the moderator just pointed me to. Go search for IAC and it should be about no. 4 or 5 down on the list.

After reading all of the posts, it seams to be a VERY common problem. I would buy a new valve and take the old one off and give it a thorough cleaning and allow it to dry properly (avoid hearing the initial loud humming that everyone reports). Then, the next time you have an IAC problem, just switch it with the one you cleaned.

One question, will removing the valve affect the onboard computer? I read somewhere that you may need to disconnect your battery or reset the OBD via code reader when reinstalling stuff like that???

It definitely sounds like your IAC acting up. But unfortunately, cleaning the IAC will just bandage the problem. For me, after cleaning it definitely fixed the problem for only two weeks before happening again. The second time I cleaned it and it was dead because it won't go back up to 1000 rpm idle nomatterwhat so I had to buy a new one. I also got it from www.rockauto.com for only $55 plus shipping. It's a lot better than what the dealer offers and no offense to this board, also FPN.
