In Need Of A Bigger Fuel Pump Help.

No no, you've been of great help already. It seems as if about $400 is right, I just called local ford dealership they want $490 for it. That's a 2000 lightning pump.

As long as its the newer pump that fits right in there, cost isn't that big of an issue, it sucks to pay more, but if it works I'm happy.

Thanks Alec!

That must be for the whole sending unit and every thing. $$$$

You may just be able to by the replacement pump at AutoZone or Pep Boys and replace the pump only. Thats what I did on my older car. I could have bought the whole thing for like $175 or just the pump for $30. Just removed the pump from the tank, drilled out spot weld that held the pump in, inserted new pump and place small screw with locktite threw drilled spot weld.

the price that you are getting quoted HAS to be for the entire pump/sending unit assembly. you dont need all of that crap, just the pump. i have a 01' (i believe) Lighting pump in mine, and it was a bolt on swap. if you cant get one cheap, just go with a Mustang style pump. its the same thing, and you can find high output 'stang pumps alot cheaper than a Lightning pump. if it does require some modification to fit, it wont be much at all. they are virtually the same thing. just remember, you want the pump, and not the entire pump/sending unit.

It is a quote for everything, not just the pump. Where would I go about getting just the pump, seems as if everywhere I go all they do is the whole assembly.

i'm on the phone with autozone, the 2000 fuel pump kit assembly only 339,99

2001 sells assembly for 209.99 and the pump alone for 125.00

So do I snag the 2001 pump and that's it?

The guy was looking at pix of the 95 fuel pump of my ex in his computer, and pix of the 2000 and 2001 pumps and he said they are nothing alike at all. The 2000 is like doiuble pumps or something, its why its so much, and the 2001 is just totallly different.

I have no idea whats going on at all, lol. James could you gimme a little more info, about yours, and if you think mine would be the same, and if yours really is a 01 pump.

I can't even compare to a mustang cause i don't even know how much pressure i'm looking at, I'm just going off of what Alec said about the lightning, heh.

Thanks in advance.

i really have no idea what exact year mine came off of. it was a totalled truck that was at a local wrecking yard. it was stripped bare in less than one day, and i was kinda in a hurry. forget the Lightning pump, just go with a good aftermarket pump for a stang. get a big one, dont waste your time on something like a 155, go atleast a 190 or even a 255. its not gonna hurt anything to have too much pump. you cant sit and look at a picture on a computer and say "well, thats not gonna work". the Lighting pump i have was not a double. it didnt fit exactly, but all i had to do was drill some holes to bolt it on.

just for comparison...

BBK 190lph usually sell for around $110.

BBK 255lph usually sell for around $125.

dont bother with the Lightning, just get one for a stang from www.jegs.com or www.summitracing.com

From what year mustang, whenever I call a place they always ask a year...

Or just the 255 BBK for mustangs, heh.

they are all the same, but if you must give a year, then just say for a 96. doesnt matter, though.

Yup, just like I was saying earlier. I think from 86-67 they used the same style pump, or that's how it looks in the summit catalog. In my 91, I got either the 110 or 155 lph pump, and it plugged straight in. I'd just go with a stang pump from summit or jegs... simple and cheap

Go to the used parts section. I got a slightly used 255 lph in tank pump for $50. Many are for sale from people doing conversions from EFI to carb.

$125, just for the pump still seems kind of high. I would think you could get one under $100. Maybe look for a more common pump from a Mustang or some other 5.0 H.O. model.

My suggeston would be to go to Autozone (Pep Boys) and ask them to pull your pump assembly. Then ask them to pull a couple of pumps you are interested in to see if it would fit in the assembly. You may even be able to ask for a catalog or cross reference they have to compare different pump outputs and select one, pull it and see if it would fit.

no need to do all of this work. there is also no need to try and swap with another Ford pump. shop around, i gave the BBK as only an example. look around for used/new pumps for mustangs. look wherever you want. i have a Lightning pump in mine, and Alec has one in his. i am assuming the on i have came off of a 01, as it was not the dual pump setup. there is no need to try and compare them at the shop, we're both telling you it will work. trust us.;)

i dont understand why around $100 seems like big $$$ for a high flow aftermarket fuel pump. you have the only known turbo explorer in the world right now. dont cut corners. if you get one that is too small, you are wasting your time. you will have to replace it yet again if you ever want to up the boost or do other mods. its a small PITA, so do it right to begin with.
:)

I went ahead and bought the BBK 255 it'll be here in a few days, and I'm gonna hopefully have it put in before I head out to the Arizona run. $130 is chump change at this point in time, lol.

I'm not gonna have the exhuast done, unless a miracle happens. Like a 24 hour day turns into a 48 hour day.

I also ripped up a few ricers while doing my shopping today. That was fun.

Went ahead and ordered a sticker that says.

VTEC
EATER

Dunno if I'm gonna put it on or not, I could asking for trouble with so many ricers running around. And then I almost flipped my EX doing donuts in a field, that was terrifying.
