INSTALLATION HELP NEEDED !

Hi everyone,

I just picked up two 100 watt (each) h3 driving lights and the kit was not complete. i want to know how to install them if i need a relay or some other parts to make this work.

Also will my stock alternator run these lights with no problem or can i cause damage running these high powered lights.

By the way this is my first lighting mod and i want it to be a problem free one..

Boy, you sure picked a potentially troubling first mod....

Anyway, your truck will run fine with your pair of lights...search for "Vegas" if you want more advice on running slightly more than one pair of lights as I think small municipalities in California hire his truck when they experience blackouts.

I hope the lights are worth it because yes, you should run a relay with them. Since you don't have a relay, go to your parts store and get a light wiring kit which includes, wiring harness, relay, switch and most important....instructions. If you got cheapo lights, ($22 lights or something) salvage the bulbs and go get yourself a new set of lights with harness, relay, etc. Wiring it all up isn't hard though, you just need the instructions for your first time.

I'm still trying to figure out how to wire up a Starbucks espresso machine in my rig but I think that's a northwest thing and probably doesn't get much respect from others in this forum. ;-)

I actually found the instructions but no relay or wires. So these 100 watt lights should not affect my alternator right ? I'll go pick up a relay but is there any special relay i need ?

Hmm..Diablo just gave me a better idea....I could quit my job and tow an espresso/Ford parts trailer....that just might work up here. ;-)


Guggy, if you want the simplest route...just go to Radio Shack and pick up a relay for a couple bucks (they even have instructions on them). If you already have the instructions with your fog lights, you'll be all set. The hardest part is deciding where to put your new lights.

As for your alternator...it won't even know you have em. If you had a row of PIAAs and 4 or 5 amplifiers, I'd say it would be time to look into a higher output alternator and second battery but you're totally cool adding a set of lights. Hell, you could add a second set and it wouldn't make a diff.

Alternator?

Like AC said, your alternetor wont even know they are there. I was running a pair of H3 100 watts on a 93 Escort, so... It was tapped into the hi-beam to go on(with relay of course).
