Installed K&N GenII FIPK (pic)

Mascman,
The advantage of the K&N FPIK kit, is that it gets rid of the stock tube and replaces it with a smooth tube.

What you did was to basically remove the Air Box for your Filter. You could have accomplised the same thing by drilling the stock Air Box. I have the OHV engine, with the Cone Filter, and I got the drop-in K&N, and I cut the top off of the Air Box. What I'd like to do now, is to get rid of the stock air tube.

I have a 1997 Sport, OHV Engine, Cone stlyle Filter.
Why can't I get this Filter Kit? Why does it have to be a Flat Filter originally?

My question exactly. Since you're replacing the whole setup, including the filter and intake tube, why would it matter?

CBoug76- I know the K&N system eliminates the stock air tube, what I'm saying is that the difference in performance is marginal but the difference in cost is not!
I don't really think the 4.0 moves enough air that you could even tell the difference. The comparison we did on the Silverado showed us that and it has a V-8.

Another question...does anyone have a bodylift with this system? We were going to put one on the Silverado, but the K&N System would then be in the way. On my Sport it doesn't look like the stiff tube of the K&N system would fit, either.

Everyone can spend their money the way they like...I wouldn't spend mine on the FIPK when I can do the same thing for $50. That plastic air intake tube isn't worth $150 to me!

trial and error Hartman, get it an see if it works if not sell it on here.

I don't even think it's a risk, I'm positive it'll work.

Why all the controversy?

Dead Link Removed lists it as part number 57-2513-1 and 4filters.com list it for $157.27 + $5 S&H.

It's very simple.

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. It has an automatic transmission. It has a 4.0L OHV engine. Ford gave you a choice.

The GEN II FIPK will fit the 99 OHV engine.

The problem with any potential whistling noise is the IAC valve, not the K&N. Clean or replace it and noise is bye-bye.
