For quite a while now I was having problems with my remote entry transmitter or keychain remote. My drivers door would not unlock unless I pressed the unlock button anywhere between 5-7 times, then finally unlock after all the other doors unlocked after the 2nd press of the button. When locking up the vehicle and setting the alarm, the drivers door wouldn't always lock even though all the other doors did lock. I tried a few things first to fix this, replace remote control battery, cleaned up around wiring harness with electrical cleaner to door lock actuator and sprayed the hell out of the door lock mechanism with WD-40 and nothing really helped.
I kind of felt all along that the remote control was "out of sequence" with the operation of the door locks or remote entry system, so today I "reprogrammed" the remote control using the instructions in the owners manual. I only have one remote control for my vehicle. After I completed the steps to reprogram my remote control, my remote control in conjunction with my door locks now work as they should with the drivers door unlocking first on the first press of the unlock button, followed by the other doors on the second press of the unlock button. The drivers door also locks when it should as do the other doors. Problem solved.
For anyone else who may be experiencing simliar problems with their remote controls and who do not have the owners manual to their vehicle, the following is the instructions or steps to reprogram your remote entry transmitters:
Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is electronically "unlocked".
Step 2: Put the key in the ignition.
Step 3: Turn the key from the #1 (off/lock) position to position #3 (on or dashboard lights), but do not start the vehicle, that would be position #4(starter engaged)
Step 4: Within 10 seconds time, cycle the key back and forth "8" times between key position #1(off) and #3(on), Note: the 8th turn must end with the key left in the #3 (on) position.
Step 5: The doors will now "lock and unlock" (on their own), to confirm that the reprogramming mode has been activated.
Step6: Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed, you will need to start the procedure all over again.
Step 7: The doors will "lock, then unlock" (on their own), to confirm that the remote entry transmitter has been programmed.
Step 8: Repeat "Step 6" to program each additional remote entry transmitter you may have. Remember to press any button on the extra remote's within that first 20 seconds of Step 6.
Step 9: Turn the ignition to the #1 (off) position after you have finished reprogramming all of the remote entry transmitters.
Step 10: The doors will again "lock and unlock" (on their own), to confirm that the programming mode has been exited. You are done!
Note: Have all of your doors closed and your extra remotes in the vehicle with you if you need to reprogram all of them and have them within reach for step 6. I recommend turning off all other electrical devices such as car radio, blower fan, etc. prior to starting this procedure and seperate your remote control from your keychain so you can reach it in a hurry. Don't let all of the steps confuse you, the whole process takes approx. 30-40 seconds to complete.
