Hi, I have searched over and over again but cant find simular problem. My interior lights stay on all the time. The door open warning on The dash goes off when I close the door but interior lights stay on. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Is your dimmer switch defective?

Make sure at least that it is not "clicked" on for the dome lights

You have the dome lights forced 'ON'.
Read the manual to see the associated switch (page 23).

Thanks! That was an easy fix. Bought the truck a couple of days ago and previus owner had removed all lights. Manual is in german since it is imported from Germany to Sweden. Again thank You very much.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I bet your problem pops up again. A lot of Fords have issues with thinking a door is ajar due to the pin sticking in the open position. It's usually one of the front doors - in my ranger it was the passenger door, on the Explorer, I haven't decided for sure just yet.
The fact that all your interior light bulbs were removed means the previous owner knew of the problem and couldn't solve it, so he removed the bulbs to keep from draining the battery. Thats what I had to do with the Ranger until I replaced the switch in the door (tied into the door handle).

Some on this forum have suggested spraying WD40 into the holes under the door handle when its lifted up and it seems to fix it for awhile.

But in the last 2 days, I have seen a lot of threads on this issue (with a couple different possible causes) and the fact that all your interior lights were removed makes me think it wasn't that you had the dome lights forced on, but that they coincidentally went off around the same time you messed with that switch.
Here is an example of the many threads like yours:
