This happened on September 15th and they still haven't done sh*t.
Some g.i in a 99 jeep decided he didn't want to wait for a red light, n floored it backing up into me. They say the estimates for it are around $2,700. The value of the vehicle is like around 5k or so. It's a 98 xlt 5.0 awd. They're not gonna total it, are they?

if they total it, ima be pissed, its a damn bumper, plastic grill and a new corner light... omg

omg, my mouse died, so it was a pita to get my plate out of that one picture... screw it.. i dont care... if someone wants to do it for me n upload it again.. i would apreciate it...

Probably not. IIRC, if it's under roughly 75% of the vehicle value, they don't total it.

If the frame is okay, that looks fixable in no time.
Give you're insurance a call again. Keep them on their toes.

TO me that is definetely not totaled. It can be repaired for maybe $1200 on your own so the $2700 is really crazy!

maybe they can total it, and you can buy it back and fix it yourself. It really doesnt look Bad at all!

ok so heres the thing, i have geico.. liability, bare minimum, no collision coverage.. so geico is out....... its all on USAA now, they keep telling me everytime i call them.. its under investigation, they already sent someone out to take pics...ect... so WTF omg, this is pissin me off, like i said.. this happened on september 15th.. and to this day they haven't done a single thing for me...

i had to get it towed back to my place after it happened, bumper was rubbin up against the wheel, didnt wanna damage anything, its pulled out now n i drive it all the time.. but still.. it needs to be fixed.........

i really hope they don't total it, what do you guys think about all of this?

if they do total it, my value is gonna go down the toilet, i really would rather not have a reconstructed title, which i was told it would have to be if they total it... the damage isnt even that bad...

hell, the airbags didn't deploy, the frame is un touched, none of the mechanical parts are even scratched.. and it runs great so yea.. idk what to think about this anymore, and i dont know what to do... this is making me very stressed out though...

it would be a shame to total a perfectly good vehicle..

What should I do, anyone have any advice?
Anyone else been in this situation?

Just keep calling the insurance company, keep pushing them.

What happens if they say it's totaled? What am I supposed to do? What happens to my truck?..

If the insurance decides that it is totaled, they'll cut you a check for the book value (which is a lot more than you could sell the X for had it not been damaged) and you'll be on your merry way. To give you an idea of value compared to what you would get... I sold my '98 5.0 AWD back in October for $3,950. The book value was over $8,000.

NOT totalled. BTW...with Geiko, you get what you pay for... My friend had them and same situation, took FOR-EVER to get things done. I just totalled, yes totalled, my 96 expy and within 3 days had a check from state farm for book value, which was much more than I could have sold it for

When it takes this long to "investigate" it usually means they are going to try and put the blame on you instead of their insured. Do you have a police report showing that it was the other driver's fault? Sometimes even with that the company will try to defer the blame to get out of the claim. Watch out for a sudden "witness" showing up out of nowhere who says that you rear ended the other guy.

Sorry to be so negative but I have seen this happen before.

Contact your state insurance commissioner with all the details, this will get the insurance company moving on your claim. I had something like this happen a long time ago, after I got the state commissioner involved I got my check within two weeks. Good luck

It took 2 months here...

We lost the Honda and it took 8 weeks to get it declared totaled.... But insurance companies (in CA) separate the property damage claim from the injury claims, so the investigation of crash might be ongoing, but the damage claims should be available to you now (in your state). There's a third party that the whole case goes to after the adjuster is done... that's where the delay is. I can't remember the title right now, but ask the adjuster for the info.

But I missed something, where does USAA come in? What's their role?

Correct...

"total loss" is the name of the division at state farm...

That's once they've determined if it's a loss, right now it should be with the Subrogation Dept. if no declaration has been made. This one sounds like it needs a call to the insurance company. They're obligated to say where things stand... If it's USAA:

oh yeah...I misunderstood
I got rear ended in orlando and it took one full year to get my money back. some fly by night insurance company but state farm nailed em

That's what it's all about!

When your insurance company works with you, it's worth the premium! When they are non-responsive, it's so frustrating. Our hold up was because the final estimate was within a $1,000.00 of the value - it all appeared cosmetic until they found the frame was warped and the bell housing(?) had a massive crack toward the bottom... it looked like only a few thousand in damages, but later the collision center just gave up after finding all of that... too many things wrong.

Here's part of how they determined the value (which I didn't know they did this) They checked the oil, all the fluids; they checked the tire tread depth, if the engine compartment is clean; if the interior carpets are clean - little things; smoke/ashes in the interior/ashtray, condition of the shifters... that's just a lot of stuff to look at.
