is it possible to put the radiator cap on backwards?

my coolant has been leaking from the radiator cap. I put on a new one and it seems fine now.

One thing i noticed though was the radiator cap can go on both ways. Meaning like for example my old radiator cap had the WARNING text upside down and its possible to screw it with the text reading upside down and right side up.

Does that make a difference? Was my radiator cap leaking because the text was upside down which caused it to not be on properly or does it not matter?

No. It springs open on a plunger from the center. If it was critical it’d be tabbed so it didn’t go on wrong.

Does not matter, but it is a part that eventually wears out.
