Is there two Catalytic Converters?

I'm just currious if there is two catalytic converters. I have talked to two muffler shops and they said there is only one. They said the other is a resonater and that I could take it off. I have also heard that there is two Catalytic converters on the X. What is the Truth?

Depending upon the year, you can have up to 3. My '01 has one on each side of the y-pipe, and one in front of the muffler. I believe the '93 has one like my '92 did. All catalytic converters are mounted between the engine and the muffler. The resonator is between the muffler and the exhaust pipe tip.

Thanks JD. My 93 has a catalytic converter then something that looks like one that I was told was the resonator then the muffler. I still don't no what it is. it has a big hole in it and needs to be replaced but I don't know what it is.

Its part of the cat. You have two. Its in 2 sections labeled as front and rear. Hope this helps.

My 93 Navajo has two.

And it also has two O2 sensors also.

Your cats are before the muffler. The thing behind the muffler is a resonator. If you are a V-6, you probably have 1 or 2, but you definitely won't have 4 like my '97 Mountaineer. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about the two rearward cats when I install a new exhaust system at the end of this summer or in the early part of the fall, but since I live in Mississippi, some illegal ideas have also popped into my head.
