Is this stock & what does it do?

My '04 has the Factory DVD (TV) option. The H/U is Cass/CD. For the source we have two options VID Movie F/R spearkers.
I also have the rear controls and if you hit the headphones button on it the HU shows DUAL. Only the front spearkers are on for FM/CD and only the Headphones work for the in flight movie, rear speakers are off. So my HU has AM/FM/FM2/Cass/VID/Aux2. Aux2 is what we use for the iPod its input is on the DVD player.
Found a pic of a similar to my DVD on ebay '04 AVIATOR DVD OVERHEAD CONSOLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTER' wrong color but the same one.

Only problem here is that we have completely different setups. You got a better headunit than I did, so you have extra options. I'm wondering if the DVD player wasn't intended to come with the car and was a dealership-level install or something. What you're describing makes sense. It's how the DVD player SHOULD work.

On my car, the DVD player produces no audio except when the button is switched. And I received no headphones. So it makes it seem like it IS a stock setup, just not done 100% correctly or something.

--------------

Upon further review, the one you mentioned on eBay is TOTALLY different from what I have. Now I'm starting to wonder if maybe my dealership lied when they said mine was stock... Wouldn't exactly be abnormal for a dealership to "stretch" the truth to make a sale.

No stock system would use an FM modulator for DVD audio. And the fact that the unit is made by Directed electronics says that it is aftermarket.

Well, at least I have more information now. Thank you.

I just wonder if my salesman was more "tell them whatever they need to hear to sell the truck" or "I have no idea what I'm talking about, but as long as I'm friendly, it'll all be OK" . . . :o

looks like we have different DVD units. Explains the mystery Switch. I would think mine is a factory install. But my bummer is i got no sub with it. After i upgraded the speakers i lost my bottom bass, so now i'm trying to add the Factory Sub to it. Need a different radio too . . .

Seems like the radios on these things aren't exactly an easy upgrade... :-(

that's a pretty crappy install if the switch is 1) off centered, 2) looks like an eye-sore and 3) is FM Modulated.

I hate to bump this thread... but I'm just surprised that nobody had suggested strobe lights. Ford Explorer is a popular whacker buff SUV and every firefighter and EMT can't resist adding headlight/taillight LED's.

They figured it out 7 months ago... Read post #40

^^^lol I actually laughed out loud on that one. hahaha

Actually it'd be a year an a half, but whatever

Ex. Forum....I'm disapointed. All that build up to find out that it controls an audio output? Dang. I need to start a new post on some stuff I found on my ST. The list includes remnants of a remote start, some type of kill switch, and after 2 years of ownership I found some kind of tracking device behind the dash/radio. If any members leased a black 01 ST from Varsity Ford I'd like to know. Not mad, I love it, but damn you made some headaches. Audio controlls. Psshhh.
