My appologies, oh wise-one![]()
Please guys
whatever you do-the most important step that I and others miss, is the tuning.
Be sure to allow about $600- $1,000 for this. If you don't, all your work is wasted time.
In fact-tuning may give you all the oomph and fun you need.
The exhaust work and tuning are the biggest gains for a stock Explorer. You won't see much at all from the other stuff. You might be better off to do those two items(and a good air filter), maintenance, and save for a cheap stroker, even used. The stock heads can work fairly well, most used engines you might find will be Mustang aimed stuff, and potentially well used. Regards,
that's not a half bad idea.
I have over a year to think about whether to stroke it, turbo it or supercharge it.
hmm i think you will spend about the same ammount either route you go
you're prolly right. I'll just get exhaust, headers, intake, some good spark plugs and wires, and some Polished Ford Racing valve covers (that should add 30-40hp to the wheels: ).
I'll prolly wind up leaving it like that till I get another vehicle (wanna pick up another SUV later next year w/3 rows) and then turn my X into a sleeper project
the stuff in red wolnt add power unless they are worn out. well valve covers wolnt do jack. And i would guess intake, exhaust, and headers to be closer to 15-25 hp max and if you're gonna do valve covers and headers why not do roller rockers and a intake spacer?
the valve cover comment was a joke....
And the spark plugs and wires aren't something i expected to add power, but I was brought up taht you always use good plugs and good wires.
I never even thought about roller rockers.
Eric, all I can say is you wouldn't believe the difference until you experience it.
How does chirping the tires while leaving in 2nd gear sound?
yeah-no kidding.![]()
Now my truck behaves as if the road is wet in first gear. One little throttle blip in a turn will have you facing the wrong direction like --snap---that
My 83 Z28 with the 700R4 chirped tires when shifting stock. Then i put it in a shift kitand it was even louder squeals

I mean LEAVING in second, from a dead stop, the tires chirp
This truck leaves black marks when it hits second at around 47mph
