Joining the bandwagon, my 4L OHV build

hey jd, does this make ant difference, i dont get much smoke/steam at all when taking the oil cap off. if i also take the pcv off it blows out for 10minutes(slowly gets less and less). and the filter isnt fogging up anymore either. only did it that one time.

first of all, i have continuity to both the fan wires.
im gonna contact spal again, but i just thought of something that i thought wasnt related, but now im thinking it might be.
i have the orange ignition wire and the blue ac wire on switches, the 12v source for both leaves the switches, joins into one wire, 15A fuse then to the battery. thats the only other thing i can think of now

in the book, they say nothing about a fuse for the ac wire on a switch. the only reason i did that was the switches are rated 15a. it doesnt really matter for a switch does it?

The fuse is a good idea since you're running 12v into the switches in the cab. All the switches "see" is a 12v source....so I don't think having them share a fuse makes a difference...that is, unless the fuse is blown or the holder itself is bad somehow.

The controller still lights up when you turn your switches on right?

Here is what I would do:

You should be able to pull the harness with the blue and orange wires out of the controller and get 12v from the corresponding pins in it, thru the voltmeter and to the chassis of the car (when the switches are on). If you don't, then there is no continuity between the switch circuits and the controller.

That is a good way to know that you're actually getting 12v power and eliminating that part of the circuit as the cause of the problem.

Sounds like this e-fan is getting to be a pain in the arse huh? hahah

Hey any of you guys (VA) got an extra alternator you wanna ship me? Mine decided to blow up today at about 5k rpm.. scared the crap out of me :p: Made it 29 miles home on just battery though.. impressive right?

Your switches do not need a ground...they are "grounded" by the part of the controller wiring that is grounded.

Well since the switches work, try hooking up your voltmeter to the two pins of the harness that plugs into the fan...see if you get voltage there when you switch the controller and ac on.

yes, controller comes on, flip ac and fan light comes on. same with the temp settings, turns orange.

would that work being my switches dont have a ground on them? theyre 2 pin switches, just power and aux

Well you have the two power wires that come off the controller that go to the fan right? put a lead from your voltmeter onto each of those wires, set it to measure DC Volts, then turn on your switches and see what the result is. It may fluctuate a bit at first but it should build to a steady voltage after some time. Remember that there's a delay (what was it, 30 secs?) between applying power to the AC wire (i.e, hitting the switch) and voltage coming down the fan power wires...so keep watching the meter for at least a minute.

oh it seems if i turn the key a few times and build fuel pressure it starts better, meaning right away, unlike it the video above where it cranks for a short time. that mean anything?

jd, i still see no water to oil separation in that bottle i set aside. im gonna try a different bottle lol

hardly any run time at all and all that couldve been in my intake already. eww

oh yea, 6.75mpg lol
most likely due to running it in the driveway so much after the repairs

after a lot of that venting the valve covers. i still looked up getting 'coolant out of your oil' and there seems to be a diesel fuel method(didnt look into it) and just a 'run to warm temp, drain oil, replace oil, repeat process'. i may try that. maybe 2 times, just so i feel a little better

that aint nothing, mine fills up every couple weeks!!!seem like in higher compression motors it does tho

i didnt even notice you had one. mines a big honker tho, thats maybe a teaspoon in there.
thats probably why i see race cars use them. due to higher compression.

yea i dont hear it at all from 0:00-0:22 and 2:38-2:40 :p
youre gonna replay it and listen at those times :p
really tho, in person, it ticks and goes quiet in a loop.
goes: quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, tick, tick, tick, tick, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, tick, tick, tick, tick, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet, tick, tick, tick, tick

but really tho, did i do that right? it stayed at 0, not anywhere near 12v... unless i had it on the wrong setting?

and when coasting down the road. below 1k rpms the exhaust is quiet. when doing it at above 1k rpms i hear like a steady turbo whistle but only much, much deeper. what the hell is that? never noticed it before with the cherrybomb

am i doing it right?
zavWUGlMex4

Yeah that looks right the way you measured it. Wierd that it started to ramp up and than fade back down to zero....was less than 1 volt the whole time too.

On your fan power harness, you have the two wires that go to the fan, and then 2 more wires....one large red and one large black wire (power wires). The red one goes to the positive battery terminal, obviously. Where do you have the black one going to?

wow. so thens its a little less then 12v huh lol
now that you mention it, it did try to go up, starts at .8XX and goes up to .938 then drops from then on

i have the ground from both harnesses going to the battery cable ground on the frame. thats where the spal tech told me to place them. im gonna go sand the hell out of the frame.
maybe possibly try to directly to the battery?
