Yee haw, I tryed to see it my ac would work by jumping some power to my ac clutch to get it turning. It made an awful sound and didnt put out any cold air, O ya and it sezied up after a minuite of run time. I have to guess that this was caused by lack of refrigerent (Im a 92 so it r12 right?)
How hard is it to replace the compressor (Refrigerent safty wise?)

Thanx

By the way can you rebuild a seized compressor??? i want to take it apart for fun anyway but i wonder if it is still usefull

Yes you can. They sell rebuilt units on eBay even.

Is it hard to do on your own?? Could i, the adverage joe, do it ya suppose?

I assume you can. Just gotta buy the right parts. Mine's also seized, but I don't need A/C.

Ive only really wanted AC once this year, I played with the clutch for more of a fun thing to keep me busy. Now i want to fix it!!! Good thing i got out of the cab and went to the wires when i did cuz right when i touched the wires the compressor decided it had enough and stoped dead and now it wont turn

Well, General X, I think we have the same situation.
I also have a 1st gen with a (most likely) siezed compressor.

Several people have been kind enough to share information about this situation in this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109865

That is the most I can offer so far because I'm just learning about A/C also..

I thank you so much. Consider me a part of you bandwagon :)

A siezed compressor is not worth a rebuild attempt. The rebuild kits are not for the ones that have siezed up. Kiss em good bye. If you ran an engine without oil and it siezed up, would you attempt to rebuild it? Look forward. AND AC compressor rebuilds are beyond most folks. I will rebuild engines, transmissions and used to rebuild carbs.... other than replacing a seal, I will not rebuild compressors.

well i just want to take it apart i guess lol it seems like a really complex compressor from what i imagine in my mind but i think i have a totally wrong idea of what it looks like inside
